It happens sometimes, last year an officer got stuck in the hand with a needle and the prison sent him to the hospital immediately for treatment. The hospital put him on pre-hiv meds and such with a cost to the prison of about $7500.00 ouch!! I know cause the officer received the bills from the hospital and showed them to me before he gave them to the warden to be paid. Its been a year and all testing is clear of anything. Be very, very careful!!! Don't rely too much on equipment such as resister gloves because he was wearing just that and got stuck through the kevlar lining.

Stay Safe!

Search With Your Eyes, NOT YOUR HANDS!!! Use minature mirrors, flashlights, or whatever, but don't put your hand where you cannot see!

A quick training minute: On one training period, bring into the classroom a few needles of the type used...Affix them to the sinks/toilet as often hidden...have the officers hold their flashlights as nearly level to the sink/toilet surface as possible...which will cause the needle bodies to cast long shadows.

A small lensed dental mirror, in conjunction with the light will identify and can be used to pry loose the needle.
