Hi all,
Seeing no activity in this area in quite sometime I've decided to get something started in here again. Everyone who works corrections knows some of the games inmates play with officers either to get special treatment or get officers to fall for stupid tricks and humiliation. Does anyone have any good stories or know of some of the tricks and games inmates do. What has ever been done to you and what have you done in response? What are some of the tricks officer might play with inmates? Looking foward to hearing some responses. I will then share some of my own.
Stay Safe!

Heres a little story. :D
I was doing a prisoner transport to one of the reception and evalution centers of our state prison system and the $hithead I was transporting had just gotten 50 years and the jail didnt want to house him any longer. My chief relented and agreed that we would transport just to take him off of their hands, so you can imagine what a fun ride we had! :D
Well anyway, this guy is trying to convince me to put 100 bucks in his prison account or he was gonna sue the hell out of me for having the restraints on to tight. I told him to drop dead and sue. Well for the next hour all I heard was how I was going to be broke and penniless for the rest of my life.
I'm a fairly patient man so I let most of it go and didnt really say anything. Well one comment he made really wasnt to smart. The stupid idiot actually looked at me and said "I got a fed suit on that jail for nothing and you gonna have one to m####r f####r!"
When I got back I headed over to the jail and played their administrator the tape recording of the conversation we had. Sure enough he told me the guy had a federal law suit filed against them for some civil rights violation. I gladly furnished them a copy of the tape. :D :D

I have been in the system for almost 13yrs, and I have probably worked most of it in the mental health unit. The biggest problem I had was dealing with the borderline and anti-social personalities. They played more games to get what they wanted. They would say that they were suicidal are they would cut themselves superficially to get what they wanted. You would tell the mental health personel what was going on and they would look at as if you were stupid. They often failed to realize that we spent the most time with the inmates anyway. The funniest thing that ever happened to me was a inmate asked me once if I was the Judge Advocate? Well of course I had to give him a smart answer. I told him yes and he hit me square in the mouth. Not once but twice. He was a little supprised to see me still standing there. At the time it was not very funny. But now that I have had time to reflect, It is truly funny. :D :D :D
We had a "swallower" off and on for several years. Didn't matter what it was, pencil, razor, any thing he could get his hands on. We had to confine him to a cell, with no clothing, no bedding, not even a mattress. He would rip anything up and swallow it.

I have also had inmates complain that the cuffs are on to tight. I had one inmate tell me he was going to call the sheriff and tell him that I put on the cuffs to tight. I stuck one finger between the cuffs and his wrist and showed him that my finger easily fit. Well, he told me to expect a call from the sheriff anyways. To this date that call has never come, big surprise! :D It's amazing what inmates will threaten to get you to do what they want.
Another funny thing to watch is the inmates trying to get the insanity defense. They will eat bugs and s**t in front of you. They will scream and yell the entire shift, it drives ME crazy! But the second they are found fit to stand trial, they become Mr. or Miss normal. I love this job!

I dont know if you corrections guys see this alot or not but I see every now and then and I saw it the other night too which is what reminded me of it.
Every so often when I'm hooking up a local dead beat I get the old line about them working undercover for somebody in narcotics, and how detective so and so is gonna have my job if I take them to jail.
What always amazes me is that this always comes from some stupid drunk. The last guy that I heard this from was walking down the main thorough fare in town, drunk, when I picked him up! He gets to the jail and starts screaming to anyone who will listen "I'm undercover god****it, you got to let me go"! Then he proceeds to demand a phone call!
