In our Detention Center we have 2 Officers and anywhere between 65-75 inmates, in our main housing unit. That includes med and max security inmates.

We have housing units comprised of 96 inmates broken into halfs. Only one half is permitted out at a time. There is only 1 housing unit officer to supervise 45 inmates who are blocked out. The only difference is on violent housing units and SHU where there is 2 and 3 officers respectively on at all times. We have roving officers known as utilities who are assigned to each floor. Each floor is comprised of 4 housing units. The roving officers assist and help out with the housing unit officers. We are a fairly large county jail with upwards of 1600-2000 inmates being housed. We have 220 officers and about 45 officers, 6 supervisors, 1 shift commander and 10 CERT officers per shift with the exception of 2300-0700hrs where staffing is cut in half, due to of course money reasons! All in all this is a pretty good set up and we have no major problems running it this way.

Wow.
Our Detention Center was built to hold 65 inmates but usually has 90 inmates. Yes we are small. Our inmate population is %95 felons. The majority awaiting trial or waiting to get shipped out to the "Lodge". We have a max wing, and those inmates are moved by 2 Officers. We are to overcrowded to have a SHU unit. We only have 5 Officers on shift at night and 7 on during the day.
We have no SERT team. If your on duty you are SERT. :D We plan on expanding to 150-200 beds within 5 years.
