Facility Inspections

We are subject ot annual inspections by the State. Every year, it seems that everyone goes into a panic when the time comes around. Running around cleaning, making everything is up to par for the inspection.

Is it just us, or does everyone do this?

Since I don't work the confinement area on a regular basis (and haven't for several years), it seems like it would be easier to keep the areas in shape all the time. Maybe that's just me.

Doesn't that behavior come from our childhood..... the only time we cleaned our room was when mom and/or dad were going to check it! :) :) :D :D

Are you a government run facility? What does the yearly inspection include?

Yes, we are government run (County).

The inspection covers everything. From general overall cleanliness, to logs (paper and computer). The Inspectors check the fire extinguishers, the Scot Air paks, ventilation systems, exhaust air systems, Policies, Procedures, how the laundry is done, even how thing are stored in the warehouse!

The problem is, we have so many newer Officers that either don't know how to keep these thing up, or don't care. A large part of it is lack of training. We have people that have barely been through the basic training, trying to train newer folks, and it just doesn't work all that well.

We underwent a change in Administration a couple of years ago, and a lot of our senior officers either retired or resigned and went elsewhere. We have been trying to rebuild ever since.

We have managed to pass the inspections (barely) in the past, but this year isn't looking to good. We are over-crowded and have a portion under renovation (which takes out about 55 beds, temporarily), but that won't be completed until November (if we're lucky-you know how government contracts are :p )

Just blowing off a little steam, because it is frustrating to watch this happen year after year, when all it would take is to do the job all the time Grrrrrrrrrr.
