What colour are your uniforms? Blue? Black? Grey? Do you have to wear a tie? Can your female officers wear skirts?

Also, do you get replacements to your uniforms without a big hassle?

Do you have a hat as part of your uniform?

Well ww I don't have a uniform any more. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

California SO uniform is pretty much standard with the "poopy shirt" and green trousers. Some places even let you wear "green jeans" if they can still be found. We had the "bus driver" hat - yuck, then we went to the "smoky bear" hat - double yuck! The BB cap is always good with a class B uniform or with jump suit.

County before my last one had a VERY classy looking Stetson for a uniform hat. Yes, it was a "cowboy" type hat, but was small brimmed with a short crown so it was not bad looking.

Ties mandatory with class A uniform unless you wore a black "dickie" which I hated.

My favorite uniform though was working a jail down near the border. Green jeans, white "T" shirt, badge on belt holder! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

hmmmm, what? Somebody say something? http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Shirt = Blue with brass buttons, yellow piping on epaulets. Short sleeve in summer, Long sleeve with tie in winter. Black jacket.

Pants = Tan with blue stripe w/yellow piping.

Black basketweave leather, black shoes or boots.

Can I go back to sleep, now? http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Headgear = NONE except for the Honor Guard, which has the "Smoky Bear" hat.

My department is typical of many city PD's in the western US: dark blue shirt, dark blue pants, basketweave Sam Browne, black shoes or lace up boots. NO cowboy boots allowed, and technically NO zip-up boots, though the latter doesn't seem to be enforced by the sergeants.

Tie only required with Class A (long sleeve) shirts, and only on formal occasions or when one does not wish to wear a dickie or black turtleneck with the long sleeve shirt.

Hat (Adam-12 style) is required only for formal occasions; officers may use it for rainy days when worn with the "shower cap" cover.

Sworn female officers haven't worn skirts since the days when Angie Dickinson played "Policewoman" on TV; they wear pants even on formal occasions. Female uniformed civilians (dispatch, jail, parking enforcement) wear skirts for formal occasions ONLY.

As far as replacement uniforms, it depends whether it's issued (Sam Browne, batons, badges/insignia) or self-purchased (everything else). Issued equipment is easy to swap, but for self-purchased items you have to purchase the replacement yourself, then present the damaged items (or a memo for lost items) for reimbursement, which can take WEEKS.

Well, if anyone ever watched "Due South" you have seen what I would wear ONLY WHEN ON CEREMONIAL DUTY!
Every day for general duty:
- grey shirt (spring & summer: short leeved - collar left open (even if wearing a patrol jacket) or closed with clip-on tie (if wearing blue dress jacket);fall & winter - long sleeved, collar buttoned with clip-on tie);
- dark blue pants with yellow side-seam cavalry stripe (light weight dry-cleanable dress style, worn with or without dress blue jacket, or washable cargo pocket style, for most of the year, or heavy weight wool for winter);
- jacket (dark blue zippered-and-snaps patrol jacket for general wear, or a dark blue dress jacket for news conferences, water-proof yellow with blue patches and silver reflective markings for traffic work, or dark blue hooded parka for winter);
- footwear (lace-to-toe hiking style all leather ankle boot for general wear; 9" tall all leather water-proof insulated boot for winter; nylon and rubber with felt inner liner arctic boots if bad winter);
- hat (dark blue with yellow ventilated band and black leather peak military style forage cap OR the brown 4-dent wide flat round brim Stetson style with brown leather band);
- belt (black smooth leather waist belt and black basket weave leather equipment belt).
Women and men wear the same above working uniforms.

If we attend a formal state or military function, or for our wedding, we wear the Red Serge tunic without the brown leather Sam Browne belt but with a gold & blue dress waist belt with gold buckle, plus a pair of dress overalls, and black half Wellington boots with small heel spurs.
Women wear a formal, long, full, dark blue skirt and black pumps.

That's what I meant by a "bus driver's" hat. No matter WHAT kind of hat you wear, remember: WEAR PROTECTION, ALWAYS PRACTICE "SAFE HAT!" http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Don, I was going to make jokes and references to what that semi-clear plastic cover tends to resemble (especially the ones for the "Smokey Bear" hats), but I was afraid I'd get a warning! http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Tan shirt, chocolate brown pants. Tie in the winter and longsleeve shirt. Short sleeve in the summer. Hats are optional. Getting your uniform initialy and getting replacements is a major pain. You end up paying for everything yourself, and praying that they might reimburse you for maybe your tie. We are supposed to get $250 a year but I have not seen a penny yet for mine. All out of my own pocket.

P.S. Do you have any wolves? I think they are one of the most beautiful animals around! I love Batemans pictures of them.

alright fine... here is my ugly mug. It only shows the shirt tie and brass though.

http://www.geocities.com/timber-wp/uglymug.gif

As for wolves I don't have any at the moment. Perhaps in the future when I get a place where I can have some. For now I just enjoy hiking into the mountains around here, watching them from a distance and recording their howls at night. My web site has a bit of stuff on there if your interested, recordings I made and other info. Link is in my profile.

Alright now, lets not go crazy with my mug. It's scary enough for it to be posted once.

Thanks for the comment on the site. Just a small hobby of mine to mess around with. As for the dive team. I love it so far. Very interesting work. We have training coming up soon. It's a great way to meet others who are in law enforcement and help out your community at the same time.
