Are your Correctional Officers represented by Associations or Unions?

Here in N.Y.C. All corrections officer's are members of The Corrections Officers Benevolent Association, COBA. A very powerfull and well run union, This union is responsible for getting the 20 year retirement for there officers as well as many other benifits.

In Ontario there is a movement that has been in existance for years to try decertify from the union. They feel they can not get the professionalism they deserve (amongst other things)while attached. Presently they have the "Right to Strike" (with limitations) and are trying to get rid of that. Their site is, www.geocities.com/coao2001 (http://www.geocities.com/coao2001)

Correctional Officers. I would think that Administration would be very quickly charged and at the Labour Relations Board if they ever interfered with trying to decertify the union.... and rightly so......

Of interest, Correctional Managers and Administrators tried unsuccessfully to form an association a few years back but the Labour Board denied it. I should try see if I can get what the rationale was. It was quite interesting, related to Oath of Office I think...

we had a breakaway group here ww it didnt last to long no representation and very little money to challenge they lasted about a year even though they had some good points which the c.p.s.u picked up on
