Well my sister got t-boned yesterday and the car is pretty much destroyed. I have all week next week off and me and a couple of buddies are going to go camping and fishing. I was wondering, is there any place in socal between LA and San Diego where we could legally take the car to and just shoot it up and leave it.

So you basically want to pay to have the car towed to some unincorporated area in the desert somewhere, shoot it up and illegally dump it where it sits? Sell it to Pick a Part.

That sounds like fun.......NOT!! This is what a bunch of 24 yo's do for fun?

You just can't abandon a car anywhere. For that matter, you can't just shoot a firearm anywhere.

Private property is prolly the only place..far away from any structures. With the owners consent of course

On public property?....nope.....you would be guilty of illegal dumping at the very least. As far as shooting goes, there are very very few areas in SoCal that it is legal to shoot on public property.

The question was answered..........Only on PRIVATE PROPERTY with the permission of the owner.

This very issue is a MAJOR problem on Public Land throughout CA. The BLM and FS deal with this crap all the time.

Legally, its been answered. Private Property. I think its a stupid idea either way, for a variety of reasons. A lot of us that have worked rural LE (Deputies, Rangers, Officers, Wardens, etc.) look down on this quite heavily.

Yup, or metal scrappers if you have the title. If its a heap you could make more than what Pick A Part would pay.

Why don't you just shoot it up at YOUR house and then leave it? You could look at it each morning and think of what a selfish dumbass you are.

Regardless of legal and moral concerns, shooting a vehicle can be risky. Having shot vehicles with 9mm, 5.56mm, and 7.62mm rounds...I know how scary ricochet rounds can be. Don't be surprised when lead or other metallic fragments come right back at you. Not safe, and not smart. My advice, don't shoot at a vehicle unless your life depends on it. If you want to shoot for fun, hit up an indoor range or some federal BLM land (and clean up after yourself!).

DO you need that big of a target to shoot at for practice?

My first thought, exactly.

Well no, my FIRST FIRST thought was...

WHY?????

Now, I've heard of people taking junk cars and whacking them with sledge hammers (or some such) just for the fun of it. One way to work out aggression without hurting anyone (assuming nobody is standing anywhere near you).

But why SHOOT it? Are you afraid it will get up and walk away?

We already have enough gun control in this state, how else could they possibly control it?

MT2658, you and i both know gun control could be much worse, anyone with an ID and a utility bill can walk into a gun store and be a proud new gun owner in 10 days. This dude however, he should have to wait 30 days to give him time to forget what he wanted a gun for in the first place!

I question if he should be allowed to own a car, not to mention a firearm!
