If you feel comfortable saying.......

How much is your salary or hourly pay scale?

What benefits do you get?

I am trying to get an idea of the differences between countries and states.

Also, if you know, how big a difference between your pay and that of your local police.

We really can't complain at our department. Most officers who've been with the department and this is in PA and for County jail make in excess of $40,000 a year and can top an easy $50,000 with moderate overtime. This is for an officer who's been with the department for about 3-5years. A new officer starts out at $27,000 a year and can make in the 30's with little overtime. Since we are required to work holidays we get paid double time and a half. With 13 paid holidays a year we work this adds up to a few extra thousand on top of our yearly salary. We get .65 cents for shift diff. An officer who's been with the department for say 10 years is usually making around $23-26 an hour. We get fully paid health, dental, vision, prescription and life insurance at no cost to us. We get a uniform allowance of around $700-800 a year and longevity pay 5 years and up. I can't complain although I've heard of other prisons that pay miserable and can't believe they get people to work in them.

Wow, thats not bad Tac.... when I convert that 50,000 to Canadian money its almost 75,000$ a year!

Gazza, that sounds good, I'm not sure what the exchange rate is though for where you are from.

The top rate for a C.O. is about 44,000 but they easily pick up about 10 grand in overtime! There is a tremendous amount of overtime.
The managers also have lots of opportunity for overtime!!!

They get full health benefits, 80%dental and 200 dollars a year glasses plus an excellent pension plan. Although they are forced to put about 4 grand a year into our pension. I'll try get more accurate numbers. (I'm taking it from the top of my head)

Its been a long time since they have had a decent raise. Usually what the union gets, management get, They have always had a compression issue!

The police make around 10 grand more to start. I'll try confirm those also.
