My brother has worked for our State DOC for about a year and a half. He worked in furniture for about 10 years, but got laid off, and took a job as a CO. I really didn’t think he’d like it, but he does most of the time. His sergeant-a fortyish female-is the most lax supervisor in the place, and is know for “kissing up” to the inmates.
They have the hardest shift, because all the inmates know they can get by with it on her shift.
Anyway, my brother has had several get in his face but has yet to spray one. I was actually wondering if he was cut out for the job. Another officer even told me that he ‘took way too much” and they had also worried about him.
Today, he reported for duty at 0700 having sprayed NO ONE, ever.
When he got off at 1945, he had sprayed THREE (03) and needed a new can of OC.
Hooooah!
First two were in a fight and would not break and another CO (a fifty year old female) was between them spraying one. He hosed both…uh… “made two short bursts” I mean, and still had to go hands on.
Three hours later, one very aggressive inmate stuck his chest out and ignored a direct order to return to the dorm (he’s in minimum custody.) He warned him once, and the guy just clenched his fists. My brother drew his OC and the guys dared him, saying “Man-I’ll eat that sh**!”
My brother gave him a chance-“PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!” :D
<SGT Dave wiping a tear of joy>
(sniff, sniffle… ) You can teach them well, and dress them up, and send them off, but eventually they’re on their own… (sniffle..sniffle)
