How true is it that prison inmates torment the inmates convicted of rape or child abuse?

I hear it is true to a certain degree, but do they get assaulted? That would be a shame. :rolleyes:

Does the harassment last only for a short "initiation period"? (I hope not :D )

What other types of inmates are singled out?

I am a Sergeant at Pelican Bay State Prison in Ca. The only inmates that are really picked on here are the Child molesters, and the inmates convicted of raping the elderly. If an inmate finds out your in prison for either of these two crimes you can almost bet they will be assulted. The Whites and Mexicans will usually do more than beat them up, they'll normally stab them. Most of the time the inmates will pc (protective custody) up, and tell us before they get stabbed, and we have to lock them up to protect them from the rest of the inmates.

Here in Aus the molesters (rockspiders)go straight into protection if not they are usually flogged sensless by mainstream crims
Granny rapists have the same done to em the unfortunate thing is we have to protect them the other thing nowadays is that rapists dont worry the new drug f....d up lowlifes that now live in the system where as once a code of sorts prevailed amongst the crim this is now nearly a thing of the past ever noticed how a molester say they where molested as a child so its allright for them to do the same and the wanker bleeding hearts agree......a bullet is so cheap to :mad:

I'm not a C/O but working in the system I know that here in England there is a provision-Rule 43- for child molesters/paedophiles (a.k.a. "nonces")and others thought to be in danger(informants)to be segregated from the general population for their own protection.

In the Republic of Ireland those thought "at risk" - as above- are usually housed in a seperate complex(Arbour Hill prison) from ODC's (ordinary decent criminals).

Our segregation unit, which was used for sex offenders, was down the same hall as our maximum wing. We had a huge problem with max inmates yelling and threatening those in segregation but had no fights between the two while I worked there because they were kept separate. I had many max inmates ask for alone time with those in seg and such. Some how even hardcore criminals have a small bit of humanity left in them in regards to their views about chomos and such. I suppose they have children too.
