What do you correctional officers do to prevent a prison rape from occuring?

I've read official reports that co's will mock inmates when they beg for help... how could anyone possibly be so cruel?

I assume you all agree this is a flagrant human rights violation... in essence torture and then a death sentence(aids) that has been swept under the rug by the same idiots who downplayed the beginning of the aids epidemic when it could have been prevented.

Don't give me the line "don't do the crime if you can't do the time". This is nonsense, so then it's fair to have torturing and the death sentence for shop lifting! The natzi's used the same terminology. The more reports I read about the mess of the prison system... the more I see they aren't prison's but concentration camps. How can this crap be allowed in a civilized society, "A society can be judged by it's prisons". No other civilized country allows this inhumane treatment and their crime rate is a fraction of ours per capita. Think about how messed up these people are going to be when they get realeased into society! A harvard criminologist once told me "the best way to make a nonviolent person into a violent monster is to send them to prison".
Forget rehibilitation, were making monsters!
And the people who are raped are almost always non-violent inmates being raped by rapists and murderers.

I think the public has finally become aware of this problem because ironically of show's like "oz" and "scared straight".

When an inmate asks for protective custody... he should recieve it... this mess has to stop. Preying on the weak is wrong outside prison AND on the INSIDE.

I was just wondering what the viewpoint of corrections officer's is?

Nope, the simple answer is "don't do the crime if you can't do the time." If you don't like the answer, tough. Everyone knows jail and prison is ugly. They can make a choice to obey the law or sit in a cell with their butts to the wall. Nobody steals, rapes or murders by accident.

To say most rapists are non-violent is a falacy. You don't consider forcing oneself onto someone and tramatically influencing their victims lives as violent. To me you sound like someone trying to be an advocate for a subject they know nothing about except something they read off a website. I'd pay you money to try and work a 1 hour shift as a correctional officer. You wouldn't last 5 mins. Ever had feces thrown in your face? Look prison life is not suppose to be glamorous. Most of the time officers are outnumbers 100-1. If you offered protective custody to anyone that wanted it, then everyone would take it. You want to molest a little child but cower when you have to face the consequences of that action, don't come to me for help. It seems to me you need to be more educated on these subjects before you cry for the prisoners and not their victims.

Conditions in prisons are well known to the criminals on the street. It's those harsh and threatening conditions that people refer to when they say .....if you can't do the time.

From your postion, you sound as though you'r concerned about the convicts far more than you are concerned about the victims of those men.

Prisons are for societies benefit, not the residents. Prisons hold criminals, not their victims.

Get a little angry about the victims and their uncalled for suffering.

Let's get to facts: You use the Quakers as an example of rehabilitation. So, burning accused witches at the stake was rehab?

Where did I say I favor execution for shoplifting? Don't embarass yourself by saying that getting raped in jail leads to death. Misdemeanants in county jails rarely get sexually assaulted. You don't know this, because you are a troll who has never worked inside. I stand by my belief that crimes don't occur by accident. Taking someone else's property and converting it to your use with the intent that the rightful owner does not get it back is no mistake. It is a maliciously committed theft.

Then you have to tell me to go read textbooks, most of which were written by elitists with lots of letters after their names who never worked the streets or prisons. Junior, I got my degree in street coppery from the school of hard knocks with a minor in B.S. detection.

And please don't compare the U.S.A. with a bunch of whining surrender monkeys. Who cares what the prison system is like in other countries? When someone comes up with a greater civilization than America, I'll listen. That won't happen.
