Just have some questions inrelation to how the airport fire fighting is done at the airports.
Is it a specialised spot that members apply for or are members at those commands rotated through, for example get rostered terminal patrol, then another day get rostered to work the fire trucks?
In Australia its all done by seperate agencies so I'm interested to hear how it works in NYC and NJ.

O.K. so a best friend of mine is a PAPD official with 20+ years , and hear is what he told me.
After graduation from the Academy you go to a unit call CPP Central Police Pool. Basically you call in daily and they tell you where to work, it can be any facility, bridge, tunnel, airport, or PATH.
You put in a wish list as to where you want to work, and when you are selected, lets say to LGA, or JFK, you work the security checkpoints, terminals, etc. When a vacancy is available for "FF training" you get to go. After completing FF training, you are now eligible to get a cruiser beat at the Airport. (All cruisers have SCBAs and FF gear). Then after being fire certified, when and if a spot opens up for the crash truck, you can put in for it. It is a long road, and when my buddy got the training he was already 3 years out of the academy... Once assigned to the crash trucks, i think that becomes your perm. assignment, unless you want a change.

Thanks 2971511. Are they part of ESU or is that a seperate section again?

Seperate Section.
ESU is a SWAT group uniquely while the Crash Truck is a uniquely FF group.

Thanks!

I see a lot of miss information in here
1. There is no more central pool, once u finish the academy u got straight to a command
2. Crash and Esu are specialized units any PAPD memeber can apply for, all papd recruits are fire fighter trained in the academy

BT was pretty active in the '70s and '80's. Lots of jobs inside and then also responding to city 10-13s on the outside.
I'm guessing it's kinda quiet now.

Do the PAPD respond to 10-13s called by NYPD? Does this mean MTA police do also?
