I was searching Flickr and found these photos of the new TLC Enforcement RMP's. The light bar on the Prius is amber, so I would assume the light bars on the SUV's are amber as well. Does anyone know why they are using amber lights when they are peace officers? I think it's stupid.

Maybe th Prius was an admin vehicle and had amber just for traffic control. I can't imagine regular cruisers have amber - no one would stop for them. If I saw amber in my rearview mirror flashing away I would not pull over. Would you? nononononononononono

Possibly. That's exactly why I say they should have red and white. No one will stop for them if they have amber. Not to mention they'll never get through traffic if they're responding to a call, or to back up an officer on an 85 or 13.

Geez. Unbelievable. I would think an attorney would know the laws of the state, and that under the CPL they are peace officers, and can have and have had red lights and sirens in their cars. Ridiculous.

I have no idea why they use the lights they use, or why they are amber, but,

They have Amber lights on top of Ford escape and toyota prius. But inside the vehicle on the dash the RMP's have the Red/Blue wig wag lights. The vehicles are equipped with PA sytem to tell vehicle they want to stop to pull over. And some RMP's still have sirens intact. In some officer's book any officer that go out and do dangerous car stops and arrest perps all day everyday with or without a firearm are considerd cops in their book. No they dont have police officer status. They are 24/7 NYS Peace Officers via NYPD special Patrolman Status, but they do Police Officer work much like (court officers, hospital police , DHS Police, sanitation police, tbta, Co-op police..etc,,,etc,,,etc) And nothing stop them from getting to a 10-85 F/W or any officer needs assistant call. Lights or no lights.

I'm a Municipal Bylaw (Code/Ordinance as you Americans say) Enforcement Officer (limited Peace Officer status) over in neighbouring Ontario; about % 50 of my duties is Taxi enforcement...We use amber warnings lights on our enforcement vehicles too...

Doing any type of enforcement with amber lights reminds me of Customs Officers in Netherlands doing traffic stops...But at least they have a LED matrix that says "STOP"/"DOUANE" backwards (so you can read it in the rearview mirror) in the middle of the lightbar...

That is an awesome concept.

That is an awesome concept.

On the back of the lightbars, it will say "Follow Me" in the respective language, so the officer can pull in front of the vehicle it would like to stop, and have the vehicle follow the officer's car to a safe part of the highway or a parking lot just off the highway...This is common in Europe...

So?

They make arrests and work in a very dangerous environment.

To me, they are cops.

Cops is not a word meant only for POLICE OFFICERS.

Sorry, thats my take on it.

Here here. Hence why, no matter your status,. the public will put the name cop on there. See:

Taxi Cop - TLC enforcement, peace officers

Park Cop - PEP, peace officers

Prison Cop - State, county, etc - peace officers (not in pa or MD, but in NY. NYC, and good old DE)

Trash Cop - NYC Sanitation, peace officers

and so on.

But yeah, I hope these amber bars are an oddity. Line officers should pool their money and change the filters back to red.

Ya, we have Licensing tribunal hearings here...I like testifying infront of the tribunal, as they are a little more informal than regular court...

Wrong section number...Isn't that amendable in court by the Prosecutor asking the Justice permission to amend the ticket or summons to reflect the right section number ?

Over here, wrong section numbers are usually amendable in court as long as you got the wording describing the offence correct.

Lately, Provincial Offences Court in my area has been fairly pro-enforcement (but at the same time fair to the accused)...About two months ago, I sat in court the whole day waiting for my trial to come up (unlicensed limousine company)...The Justice of the Peace convicted every single person that had a trial that day (about 10 or so) including a conviction against the limousine company I charged...The Justice of the Peace presiding was a Criminal Court Judge in Bosnia and Herzegovina before coming to Canada...

Provincial Offences Court is presided over by Justice of the Peace who hears cases where people have been summonsed to court or a disputing a ticket for a violation of Provincial law such as traffic violations, underage drinking, not providing your employees with a break or safety equipment and violation of municipal by-laws such as taxi, noise, illegal dumping and parking by-laws...
