How soon should I take a new test?

I took test 5046 which expires in early 2010. In case I can't get into the January 2010 class, how soon should I take another test to get on a new list? Should I take the test in ocotber? a walk in? Wait until my current list expires? Will being on two lists at the same time mess something up?

You can take the test if you want, but you'll definitely be going in the next class anyway, barring any unforeseen circumstances, of course.
