What is this all about? Does anyone know anything about this? This makes reference to peace officers and "police officers". This also refers to a "Metro Housing Police Department"

Are they just BS'in here? Because they are a private company (not a railroad) and not apart of the BMHA, how can they be police officers in a police department?

Depends. Some peace officers go for like 40 hours and others the whole Police Academy. I have NO idea what they'll put them through.

I can't immiagine being in the PJs ALL DAY on just 40 hours of training.

Roll over and prepare to die... haha.

I guess this is a restart of BMHA's cops. They will be like a contracted type public safety department working under BMHA's peace officer thing on the CPL

So do you guys really think that these security guards will get respect from Buffalo Police & most important the project residents?

who knows. the BMHA should bring back the Housing P O L I C E not hire a contract company. Talk about NO job security...

If they're peace officers, they would be colleagues of Buff PD, not sec guards

if this is done right I think it could be just like the Housing cops but just not employed by BMHA. This is what the housing complex needs people to watch over them and make things safe again and give people living there a little security

lets be honest, Buffalo projects our very rough along with some of the residents. I certainly hope these officers are well trained. Also, would it not be cheaper if the city hired their own officers instead of contracting with a security company?

This is similar to what coop city has to offer but in buffalo.

maybe its contracted but maybe the management company has taken over buffalo projects.

My point exactly, is it really a smart move for the City of Buffalo to send a security company in these projects?? They may be better off letting BPD continue to handle these areas.

They may be better off letting BPD continue to handle these areas.

No one patrols the PJs. BPD answers complaints there, thats it.

At the end, it states you would be working for a non-profit organization. I agree with TNT, looks like a similar situation to Co-Op City where a non-profit management company with governmental ties (NYS DHCR in Co-Op's case). It would be interesting to see what type of line of duty benefits or pension these guys are offered.

It may be a good way to get your foot in the door if you're looking to get into law enforcement.

Skip it! If those PJs are anything like the ones in ENY, Bville, etc. They are the dirtiest people you will ever deal with. Riding in elevators that are more like mobile outhouses, used condoms all over the staircases, needles, and a whole bunch of other goodies await you in the Ps. Ive worked howzin in 3 boroughs and its all the same!

beware, they are charging 50 bucks to take the exam for a job that may not even exist, that is if BMHA and the common council say no. A little on the shady side...

How can an agency charge $50 for something that may not even transpire? More importantly, why would they have a petition to sign to gain support?? VERY SKEPTICAL....

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A new mission has been launched to improve the quality of life for residents of Buffalo's municipal housing.

The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority has been depending on the Buffalo Police Department to patrol it's housing developments, since federal budget cuts forced the Housing Authority to fire its police officers back in 2005.

Now a private agency is offering to take up the slack.

Officials for the firm called the Metro Housing Protection Agency made their pitch at City Hall, Tuesday.

They are a private, not-for-profit law enforcement corporation, looking to get a contract with the BMHA to put full-time patrols back into the projects.

Jim Ward said, "We are going to be able to get government grants and money that a regular police department, and an agency like BMHA cannot get. So that was the reason for the not-for-profit. Moving forward, our officers are going to be able to do everything that a regular Buffalo police officer can do. They just cannot issue warrants."

The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority's executive director, Dawn Sanders, told News 4, they have met with a number of police agencies, including Jim Ward's group.

The BMHA is upgrading security, and bringing back a police force is just one of several options being considered.

Looks fishy to me. Funny how the bottom of the ad says no phone calls. My bet is that they start this "agency" up...they get candidates who work for a bit...then they wake up and realize that the s**ty 31 grand aint worth risking their life and they bounce. Wonder who pays for the training and equipment. I bet there is a ton of hidden BS...like officers are responsible to pay for the training & buy uniforms, firearms, belts...ect. If it does pan out Im willing to bet it will eventually come down to a force of part time BPD or other WNY Police Officers mixed in with a few Housing Officers. I dont know... maybe Im totally wrong..it will be interesting to see what happens.

It's strange they are not registered with the NY Dept. of State website for LLC. They also have a .com address instead of .org, they said they are non-profit....

Yeah, this sounded good at first but I don't like paying money for a test for a job that may not exist

Further, you guys must remember that this job is not civil service and you can be let go anytime. Also, there probably will be no union protection.

apparently about 25-30 people showed for testing. I am not sure if those people were informed that there was no official contract and that they just lost 50 bucks or what. But who knows maybe these guys will get something going
