investigating prior employment attempts

just a quick question.

would your investigator look at your attempts at employment elsewhere e.g. taking civil service exams for other positions.

i took the nassau pd, nys trooper, and fbi special agent exam with no luck lol. i wouldn't want to be a laughingstock in the eyes of the investigator :)

your investigator will definitly look at other exams they will want to know if you went through the process and stuff like that it won't hurt you but they will look into it

The way things are in NY, I'd be worried if you didn't test with other agencies. Just don't get yourself DQd from all of them.

And always have an answer to the question "If you want to work for us so bad, why did you test with those other agencies?"

The only way they will know is is they call around to the agencies and ask to see if you applied/took the tests. On the other hand, if you get to the background phase and they pull your credit report, it will show up in your future credit reports who pulled your credit check

Any background questionaire is going to ask about your previous test history. Lie and they find out, tell the truth and you look like a person who tells the truth. You do the math. Good luck.

Most agencies require you to fill out a background questionaire or "bluebook", as it is called in the Federal service. They specifically ask what oather LE agencies you have applied to. They dogged me out when i went thru the interview because i forgot to mention one of the depts... I had tested with a bunch of them Nassau, Suffolk, LBPD, PAPD, Amtrak, NYSP, INS etc. and one i just truely forgot to list. The grilled me pretty hard, but i still go hired.


You do not look like a dumbass when you get denied by a bunch of agencies, but you doo look like a dumbass when you lie...

EX: I was in the medical for NYPD and they said, anyone wearing glassed take them of, anyone wearing contact remove them..

The guy in front of me took off his glasses, but had contact underneath. Talk about dumb, the DR. checked his eyes, and said out loud for all to hear; "this one is blind and DEAF he didnt hear me say NO CONTACTS".. it was pretty funny, but he got DQ'd.
