View Full Version : Would accidentally ingesiting THC disqualify from NYPD?

Hi all

I have been a straight arrow all my life. No arrests, no delinquency, no drugs not even cigarettes. In May I went to a friend's get together. There was a tremendous spread of food including vegan dishes. I tried a brownie, I thought was labeled "special" because it was vegan and I've been trying to get my weight down and stay in shape for NYPD. Turns out there was something in that brownie that made it special and not vegan. Needless to say, I accidentally ingested THC.

Would this show up in testing? I've never smoked before or after the incident. Would you be forthcoming with this information or would the investigator think you're bsing?
What would you do? (Needless to say again, I am no longer friends with the person as she knew I am trying to be NYPD, so the first thing I expected her to do was warn me about weed in the brownies).

The hair drug test will detect drugs for a period of 90 days. The test requires a hair sample of 1.5 inches in length. Each 0.5 inch represents 30 days. The hair sample must be cut as close to the scalp as possible and only the most recent 1.5 inches are tested.

You did drugs in May, they will show up if you are tested now. No matter what you tell them/do not tell them you will not be hired if you test positive.

When going through the hiring process you should be upfront and honest. However, with this incident so recent, time is your friend.

If it's just weed then don't mention it at all.. It will be out of your system in about 3 months and you have a long time till your medical or mini medical come around.. Just don't smoke or do anything else that's 'Special'

Wow, what integrity you lack there of!

If you don't mention it and they find out, you are done. Always be upfront.

Stop lying you knew what was in the brownie and I'm sure what your friends were up to. For the guys who are telling him to lie would you sit in squad car with this guy? I HOPE NOT
But hey who knows welcome to the NYPD.

Zephendo-Thank you for the intelligent response. As for being called a liar, if I wanted to experiment I would've done it in my teens, not 3months after finally taking the NYPD exam. I trusted my friend, she betrayed me and we're not friends anymore-plain and simple.

As for lying, I don't believe in bsing people. I will be upfront about what happened and leave it to be decided. I believe I am a stellar candidate and hope that would shine through.

I believe him. I think it's very possible for someone who doesn't hang out with people who do drugs not to know what "special" means.

Excuse me?

So are you one to lie then? I giving my advice from me LE experience and watching applicants fail to disclose important info and get DQ'ed.

And what would you do then?

I'll take the middle approach, since I have been through almost the entire process of the Nypd. Tell them everything and anything!!!!!. It shouldn't even be a debate. But also if you want to go in with a clean hair specimen or urine specimen, wait a while. They may think your story is BS, but be aggressive in your assertions and look them in the eye when you say that this happened.

Tell them you ate a brownie and it made you feel good, let them figure it out from there.

Were any of the other vegan dishes marked "special"? If that one dish was the only item marked "special" out of the "tremendous spread" of food, dont you think you maybe should have asked what was so special about that ONE particular dish? This job is 99% common sense. Hopefuly you tell them and you go on review.

Actually yes, most of the vegan foods had "special" labels to differentiate from vegetarian. So there was nothing that would arouse my suspicion.

As many have advised on this board, I do plan on being open and honest and dealing with the consequences of my own naive choice.

Another issue that is bound to come up is the fact that you were hanging out with these "friends". who were doing drugs. I know you stated you were no longer friends, but the issue that you were friends with people that were doing drugs is bound to come up.

I do not know about now, but years ago, merely associating with perps was more than enough to be disqualified, and if you were hired, it could get you fired.

And, your investigator may go further with this, what your friend did is a felony assault in NYS,

Assault 2nd degree:

"5. For a purpose other than lawful medical or therapeutic treatment,
he intentionally causes stupor, unconsciousness or other physical
impairment or injury to another person by administering to him, without
his consent, a drug, substance or preparation capable of producing the
same;"

The investigator may want a report made by you to your local authorities and may want you to press charges. What you are claiming is a Felony.

You should certainly have no qualms in making a complaint/arrest in the matter as you described. She has put your future employment in jeopardy !
Just suppose that your "friend" had put something more aggressive in the food !
You have a duty to arrest persons doing illegal acts and placing others in danger as a result of the illegal act.
If your disclaimer is that "all my friends are doing it" then at the very least you need new friends and need to look hard if LE is a career path for you.
Plus YOU need to be more aware of your personal choices. NO, you can't take a cup of drink from a garbage can of booze. NO, you can't hang with your buds that are hitting wasted on booze or other substances. NO, you can't carry CCDW and drink all night.

Making correct choices are daily decisions in LE, start practicing them NOW.

assault 2nd would be a farce, if anything his friend acted knowingly, not intentionally

Just be honest about it. It is easier to explain to them on your own terms than trying to explain to them when they find out something's not right.

Also, you are judged by who you associate with, so chose your friends wisely.

I hope something happens and you don't make it through the academy. It's people like you that give LEO's a bad name and you will most likely not make it long with your lack of integrity!

Man....I wish I was a Detective/Background Inv with NYPD....

I'd subpoena this place for account info on a ton of folks on here....and run your azz out of LE for good....My Lord.....

The lack of integrity in here by some folks freaking amazes me....especially from the one claiming to be a US Marine....and for those of you wanting to be a NYPD Copper.....

Amen!

Your "friend" really dropped you in the trick bag.

I'd be pis$ed and that "friend" would have a big problem if someone drugged me.
