I'm not sure if it is for a specific agency or if all agencies who hire special officers can hire off the list of people who take the exam. I'm not to familiar with their testing though.

Is this a regular NYPD Police Officer Exam? I thought the next exam was in like October or something. Anyone have any info on this?

No this is not a POLICE OFFICER exam, this is for a PEACE OFFICER/SPECIAL OFFICER exam.
Many city agencies hire off this list such as ACS, DCAS, man.. too many to list.
USUALLY Hospital Police have a seperate exam. Who knows.

These are the agencies that I know of that hire off of Special Officer;
- Department of Homeless Servives Police (DHS)
- Department of Health & Mental HYgenie Police (DOHMH)
- Admin for Children Services Police (ACS)
- Department of Juvenile Justice Police (DJJ)
- Information Technology & Telecommunications Enforcement (ITT)
- Human Resources Admin Police (HRA)
The Hospital Police hire off of the civil service title "Special Officer (HHC)"

Nope. This exam is not a Police Officer exam. It is a totally different position. The city has numerous types of law enforcement officers and as such, give different exams.
These are all the law enforcement exams I can think of that the city gives:
Police Officer - NYPD
Environmental Police Officer - NYC DEP Police
Deputy Sheriff - NYC Sheriffs Office
Correction Officer - NYC Department of Correction
Special Officer - Many city agencies such as Homeless Services Police, Human Resources Police, Juvenile Justice Police, ACS Police, Hospital Police, etc.
School Safety Agent - NYPD
Different exams for different positions.
It should also be noted that Special Officers are peace officers under NYS CPL 2.10, not police officers, and that many Special Officers in the city are unarmed.

I have never heard of this agency before. Where in the city are they located? Are they armed?
All I could find was a photo of their patch.

I belive they hire off of Special Officer, so they arent armed and have the same powers as any other Special Officer. I also hear that they are a rather new agency. I have their patch in my collection.
And also Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner is going to create a Special Officer agencie somewhere in the near future. There still in the early stages, no shields have been made and nobody has been employed.

I guess I could throw my hat in the ring. They don't give this test often. Sad part is I would have to leave some awesome paying gigs to take a peace officer position.
Quick question to my NYC brothers whom I've come to know over the past year: would you? I would a fulltime ASO gig making 17 (hr), a part time gig making 18, and am pretty well established. Armed officers have arrest powers in Virginia...the only thing I am missing is being considered an LEO. Would you give that up to get back in the game, even if it means making less and paying more???

Do it man, a guy who seems to have your head on your shoulders and experience like yourself could probably advance quickly.

Anything new on this? Is this the general SO exam for DHS, ACS, etc? Or just DCAS only?
How does DCAS line up compared to say DHS or ACS compared to duty assignments,. static posts, etc?

The S/O Exam is for the whole agencies picking up off the list. Not for just DCAS or Hospital police.
Hospital Police has their own exams.
