Hello everyone. Sorry to hear about the July class :(. I have a question about the hiring process. My exam is 8051 which is a very long time away. I hope that it doesn't expire by the time that list number comes around. However im worried about 2 speeding tickets i received, one in Jan 08, another Jan 09. Will they greatly affect me in the hiring process? I have no other tickets and have never been arrested.
Thanks in advance.

im sure you will get alot of responses about "oh you wanna be a cop, you have to obey the laww blah blah blah, maybe its not the job for you" dont listen to em (maybe they wont say anything after ive said this) just stay out of trouble, not all nypd cops are perfect, the best ones with the most street smarts are rough around the edges and not miss goody two shoes. i wouldnt suggest getting anymore... they look for repeat offenders and they show that a sign of disrespect for the law. keep your nose clean for now on, you got a while anyway.

Kiss your chances goodbye!........... LOL just teasing. Will they stop you from being hired? No. More details would help though. 10 MPH over is much better than 30 MPH over. Your investigator will ask you and grill you about them but they probably won't hold you up if thats the only negative on your background. Keep your speedometer below the speed limit and don't get anymore. If you are trying to get on a small department it might put you behind a better candidate with nothing negative in their background. If you are worried about it disqualifying you, no it won't disqualify you. But you have to suffer the consequences of your actions. It may hold you up a bit with a department.

The only way they could really affect you would be if you lie or neglect to inform them that you got the tickets. Believe me, they know you did. But failure to disclose them would be the only way you'd be disqualified because of them.

i had three speeding tickets on my record, all of them for 20+ mph over the speed limit and it never even got brought up in any of my interviews and i got the job no problem, but be sure to disclose it because they will know about it, even if you werent convicted. everyone speeds, its not a big deal and they know that. dont worry about it.

Yeah I had 4 speeders, paid for them and moved on. I disclosed them in my blue book during my investigation process along with an explanation and that was it. Nothing to it and I got the job.

Just dont lie about them
