I am looking for a new pair of boots and my main question is, Whats the big difference between men's boots and women's? I am able to find the boot I want but it only comes in mens, does that matter???
Thanks

The main difference is how they are sized. As long as it fits properly, it shouldn't make a difference.

My female partner wear mens boots.

Aahhh yer mudder wears kombat boots! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Find the boot that FITS you! Don't worry about what the size says, (they are all different anyway, even from the same manufacturer) and if it is comfortable, who cares what it says.

With your uniform no one will ever know whether you are wearing men's or women's boots. It just isn't an issue.

Thanks. I have no problem with wearing mens boots I just wanted to make sure size was the main difference. What about the side zip, does it work well?
Thanks

Shannon unless you have an overwhelming need to don or doff your boots quickly I think the zippers are a waste of time and take away from the construction of the boot.
It is also another thing to snag or break. Just say no to side zipper boots http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

swatbwana obviously has arrived in the locker room at 0552 hours when he has to be in roll call at 0600. More importantly, he apparently has never secured at 0100 and tried to make it to the FOP clubhouse for last call.

Actually, good point about the zippers. The lace boots I've worn the past few years always seemed to hold together better than the zippered boots I wore early in my career.

I have too!!! and I never take off my Danners unless I'm putting on my coveted addidas GSG9 boots for those formal occasions. Well OK my wife makes me take them off when I'm wearing shorts she says they make me look like a Cop .. go figure!

RCMP issue footwear includes:
- Boots, congress: black, half-Wellington style with elastic panels. Worn with our Walking-Out (mess kit) order with heel spurs;
- Boots, long: brown riding boots, laced, with riding spurs, for ceremonial parades;
- Oxfords, black: most of us use them for formal wear, but office types wear them. Leather soles, look ok but useless;
- Boots, ankle, hiking style: about 2 years ago we got these. Made by Prospector. All leather, not breathable or waterproof. Vibram sole;
- Boots, winter: also made by Prospector. 8 - 9 " high, all leather, waterproof (GoreTex liner), insulated (Thinsulate), slip resistant sole (Vibram). Good to -30 to -35C;
- Boots, mukluk: Acton brand (I think), blue nylon uppers, black rubber bottoms, sole has hundreds of small round studs. Worn with felt insoles, nylon mesh insoles and a double wall wool felt inner boot. Laced up with 3 pairs of D rings plus drawstring top. Good to -40C and colder. Canadian Armed Forces wear same boot, only white.
I think our ERT (SWAT) get different footwear. Some guys have been able to buy Magnum Hi-Tec 8 - 9" high boots.
Footwear is issued free and replaced as required.

Hey - esecurityschool.net carries Bates Shoes specially priced for law enforcement. For Men & Women, but as long as they fit the "title" mens/women's doesn't matter - that's what they say http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif - but I'd like to see a man size 8 1/2 in high heels cause they fit! http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Don't pay Galls' prices - check out this site.

I started out with a pair of Hi-tech Magnums. They lasted about one year to the day. Fell apart at the soles.

I spent the money and invested in a pair of Danner Acadia. I've worn them for 3 years on duty and that included a 9 month tour in Germany everyday. They may cost more than most, but if you keep the leather soft, they will last. Danner will replace the soles for $35 if you send them back to the factory(locally may be cheaper).

Others I work with have bought them also and love them.
