I was just wondering of the glock 19's the NYPD issues as a service pistol, Are they the 3rd gen Model with the rail?

yea I believe so. Actually I'm positive. I believe Suffolk still issues the original because they actually issue you the gun and they haven't upgraded-but they'll reimburse you if you upgrade yourself I think. Guys who came on when they first adopted the 9mils may still have the original pistols they were issued, but the new ones all come with rails. I think any NYPD officer can tell you that you technically buy your pistol brand new, sort of-It comes out of your uniform allowance but the gun is discounted, and I THINK that you get the cost back later on. Hope that helps. I'm not sure on the PDs policy on weapon mounted lights for patrol officers though. I know the other two duty guns don't have rails at all. The Sig 226s and SW 5946s they specify are the smooth lowers.

Your gun is free. It is yours to keep if you choose to resign if you have completed 2 years (off probation).

yes it has the rail. no it is not allowed to attach anything but yes it is cool to put a laser on it at the range.

Thank you guys for the info

I just recently got called up for the academy and was debating for when the time comes to opt for either the glock or the sig. Im used to the Sig platform
and my experience with the glock is that i was never too comfy with the grip angle of the pistol.
Then again i will be purchasing a G26 as a backup/off duty weapon so i figure since the G19 and the G26 mags are compatible that the wise choice is the G19....right?Then again i do shoot my sig well, just never shot a DAO only though.
lol i know i got a long way in the academy but i just wanted to get ur input on it guys.

The G19 is easier to conceal for plain clothes details, and for to and from work if you don't lock it up at work.

and only god knows when the academy will be restored due to the knuckleheads in albany delaying very important funding.
