If money is the main argument for you, stick where you are.
This is a career you gotta want, it must be deeper than money.

PDJoe, I don't know what your personal situation is, but it is not as simple as "it must be deeper than money." A 30 year old guy has to think about a family that he either has or plans to have and then think how much longer he can afford to live on less than $50k in the NY area. It is a legitimate concern for those of us not just out of school and living with our 'rents to consider the economic realities of a job that we have always wanted.

i see where your coming from 10-40. Heres a solution, may not be an easy one but here you go. You have stated you have a long waiting list (which you def. do) So this gives you time to save up some money. That way when you make it in you will have the difference saved. I dont know how much your making now, but after a year you will be making more then 50k (not much more) After figuring in your 1.5 year raise and overtime.
This is if you think LEO is what you want. If its just another job, stay where you are. Good lcuck

He stated he is making top of Police Officer now.. so he would be taking a pay cut if he choose to be an officer. At the end of the day, it's his choice. And he should do what is in the best interest of himself, and his feature.

kk missed that part, I actually even got the posters confused. Well just do what you need to do. With nypd top pay you will be ok. Your not going to be rich, you may even struggle, but you will be ok. If you are willing to trade higher pay for what you really want to do, then do it.

I thought PO top pay for nypd was like in the 80k range no?
if he started with PO top pay then he should stay where he is.

Depends on what he's doing. There are lots and lots of jobs that you could pay me 800K to do and I wouldn't take them.
