I THOUGHT THIS WAS INTERESTING. I GET THIS NEWSLETTER FROM CSEA AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A NYS COURT OFFICER POSTION. MAYBE? THIS MIGHT MOVE THINGS ALONG FOR EVERYONE.

"ALBANY- CSEA is reviewing a proposal from the state Unified Court System to offer a seperation from service payout similar to what has been offered to executive branch workers.
The court system is attempting to shed payroll and would target the positions to be voluntarily vacated. Workers would need to take the offer before close of business on Sept. 2, 2009.
The court system would have complete discretion to identify the titles and the number of positions in each title and jurisdiction that will be target for the cash payment.
In areas where there are more employees in the same bargaining unit, title and jurisdiction than the number of positions that have been identified to recieve the payment, the offers would be made to eligible employees in seniority order, begining with the most senior workers. For purposes of the cash payout, seniority is defined as the first date of hire in the court system.
Where and employee's total seperation cost (cash payment and the payout of accruals) does not yield a savings in fiscal year 2009-2010, the employee will not be eligible for the cash payment and the court system will move to the next eligible employee in seniority order.
This is not an early retirement incentive and CSEA has not yet chosen to participate in the payout offer. As this edition went to press, CSEA was still reviewing the proposal.
If CSEA were to adopt the payout offer, offers to employees from the Personnel Office would be generated begining on July 8. The offers sent from UCS to payout candidates would include instructions on how to accept the offer."

Two problems: First, lines vacated in a buyout will not be filled immediately, and second, CSEA represents very few Court Officers, all upstate and I doubt thare's many ready to go.

Thanks for the insight Dinosaur. I guess I am just always looking for good news, or at least a sign that I might be getting this job sometime soon. :)
What union represents court officers Downstate?

I wouldn't expect too many to jump on this. They're offering 20 grand to leave state service. From what I've heard so far, you have 7 days to decide, and once you sign up, you can't change your mind. You can not re-enter state service for 5 yrs. They can also stagger it in payments over several years, and if you have a lot of time on the books, it's not worthwhile. It would only be good for someone who can retire without penalty who doesn't have excess time and leave coming. Downstate has 4 unions representing Court Officers-Nassau and Suffolk each have their own, with court clerks, ct. reporters, etc in the same union. Then there's the New York State Court Officer's Assoc. which represents Court Officers in the "lower courts" in NYC. finally, there's the New York State Supreme Court Officer's Assoc. Which represents Court Officers in Supreme Court in NYC and all state courts in the 9th JD

Unblindeacon........Not trying to discourage you....I actually think there will be some movement on the current list.....The classes that came on in the late '70s, early '80s are getting up in age and time and will be able to retire. And as I have posted before there's always a few people at the end of the list that must be reached before the next list is promulgated.

For what it's worth a recent transfer to my command heard there will be a class in Sept.

Well, I have heard that before hahaha. But hopefully he is right and all of us who have been waiting a long time will have an opportunity for this job. Just have to keep hanging in there, staying in shape and out of trouble, and we'll see what happens.

Stay in shape and don't get any tickets etc. Once you're on be a team player and stay out of the bars on your lunch hour lol

Rumor mongering isn't my style, the transfer is only a "temporary" for 2 months. But he was told it would be permanent if a class will go in Sept. We already have a rescinded transfer (pulled back after granted and accepted and actually worked in) because of manpower "shortage". Guess they shouldn't have let a 90 day wonder go cause they had a phone call made. All those on the transfer list were told it's TDY. Yeah TDY for a year now. Add to that a normal retirement and there you have it. I have 28 complete so it pays me no never mind.
