I was just curious on everyones opinions on handcuffs and what style/manufacture you prefer.

I currently carry Two pairs, both S&W, one hinged the other chain. Both are the new oversized D cuff that fits very small wrists and large wrists alike. I really like them so far. I noticed with standard size cuffs I sometimes had troubles with women whose wrists were tiny and could slip out easily or with large men who I could not lock the cuff on. Since switching to the new D ring style I have not run across anyone that did not fit securly in them.

NSW Police use Saflok Mk IV cuffs. They're very good compared to some brands (ie; peerless, S&W). They have a VERY strong linking system and are very solid. They have a barrel type locking system with a much better key design, and can be "locked" by turning the lock barrel a quarter of a turn with no need to use the key, or a pen to push the locking button.

A few crooks have worn these snappy little bracelets http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif , and I've never had one get 'em off yet!! (first time for everything tho')

I personally don't much care for S&W cuffs. Peerless is what I carried. I certainly agree with you about carrying two sets, and I agree with carrying one hinged and one chain.

The first time you see somebody on PCP who just "pops" that chain you may well be critically injured when your rectum slams shut! http://www.officer.com/ubb/eek.gif

S&W are pretty good cuffs. But I'm with Don on this one, Peerless is the way for me. I also have a pair of Hyatts.

I use Kwik Kuffs.

These are supposedly unbreakable and being fully rigid restrict mobility of perp more than cuffs with a 'little chain' linking the cuffs.

I can't stand S&W. The double locking system is harder than it needs to be and is harder to get unlocked. I have 2 Peerless single hinged silver cuffs. Love 'em.

In Scotland we use handcuffs which ahve a fixed bar between them. This allows the bar to be used as a lever against the nerves in the wrist, giving the prisoner a lot of pain when they do not do as they are told. Once the comply the pressure can be relieved and the pain stops. Prisoners can be dragged to the ground quickly and effectively and brought under control.
All the info and TV I have seen shows cops in USA still using chain cuffs or ones with hinges. They seem less effective.
