I'm looking for a good shoulder holster...leather or nylon. What is the best to use and the one that feels comfortable? I'm on a budget but I'm willing to hear all of your suggestions.

I would look at the Uncle Mike's line. I had one that was pretty comfortable and concealed the weapon very well.

I quit carrying it after one of our city officers was killed on duty while wearing a shoulder rig. He hadn't been wearing it for long, and got into a situation where he needed to draw his weapon and went for his right hip, when the weapon was under his left arm.

If you start carrying one, Practice, Practice, Practice your draw.

I'm not going to carry while on street patrol but rather when I'm going UC. Seems like my department is utilizing my "ethnic ability" more often than I had thought and the last few times, I borrowed a fellow officer's shoulder holster.

Figure I go out and get my own so that I don't become a pain in the butt.

FWIW I have tried several different shoulder rigs. Never did find one that was comfortable! I know guys that wear them, but I'll stay with an "in pants" on right hip!

Good luck and watch yourself UC! Aren't you just a little green to be doing this? No offence meant here, but it sure seems that way to me!

No offense taken, Don. You know, I have no idea. These uc operations for me are mainly 647b and stuff like that. I guess they assume it's fairly low risk, but as usual, I never assume anything is low risk.

I have a New York Undercover shoulder holster which is comfortable and has a double magazine carrier on the off-side. It's one of several shoulder holsters DeSantis makes in leather and nylon (www.desantisholster.com).

Even though it's a 10-8 rig, I've only worn my shoulder holster to carry a back-up weapon. If you do decide to go with a shoulder rig, work on your draw so you do not laser both your non-dominant arm and the entire world to that quadrant. You might also consider its weapon retention capabilities if you get involved in a fight.

Good luck on the new assignment. Be safe.

If you're dead set on a shoulder rig, the most comfortable I've worn is the Galco Miami Classic. The spider harness is really comfortable.

However, I never wore shoulder rigs for UC stuff........to easy to detect a lot of times.
