At recent intensive handgun skills class I attended, a number of officers had that holster. An officer from Atlantic City (NJ) PD said they had problems with hood opening when bumped. They installed a lock available from Safariland. I have also seen a protector that goes over the rotating hood. It is also made by Safariland.

We just switched to this holster. I love it. I have the 6000-1 hood guard that joepicar mentioned. It really increases retention. As a weapon retention instructor, I haven't seen problems with this unit yet. I've done about 1000 draws from mine, and it's never failed to open WHEN PROPERLY APPLIED.

We have them in Black leather for the road/motor/mounted guys, and nylon for the Marine guys. I just saw the kydex version, and I'm thinking of getting one for off duty.

I'm going from the bianchi holster to the safariland(6280)...I like the look the ergonomics....now I just have to locate one for my sigpro.

I'm concerned about it opening accidentally tho.....you guys mention the lock and the hood. Do they hamper the draw and are they easy to engage and disengage during physical combat or in a quick draw situation....I imagine they work well(respective functions).

I'm considering adding both the hood and the lock......wadda you think?(almost a level III effect...huh).

Of the 250 +/- times I have drawn from my holster since adding the hood guard, I can only recall hitting the hood guard twice. And that was within the first couple of times. It looks like it will be in the way when you look at it, but it's not.
