Very wierd....I am on exam 5047.....and was told this week that I was not going to be called for the July class.

May I just speak from experience? Don't listen to "anything" APD tells you. They aren't given anymore information than we candidates get. Good luck and think positive. Just be ready in the event you do get that phone call a day before the academy starts.

So so negative these investigators. I was due for fingerprinting he had me come down to get them done, he was then like hmm maybe we shouldent do them because your not getting into july and jan is cancelled. So your just going to have to do them again and pay another $75. A lot can change in a year. Im not even that new of an exam. I am 6011, they hired people off of the exam prior to mine. I dont expect to get into july but as i said a lot can change at any time.

i know it sucks but to be realistic they are right.. im sure they have 150 people ready for hire off of examm 4022 or atleast 100...so if you do the math i cant see them getting past that exam number if things continue to be the same..

Well i understand things dont look great, but fact is anything can happen in a year. I am 6011. They hired off of exam 6010 for last class.

This is what my B.I. had informed me.... I took exam 8120 back on 07/20/2008. I scored in the top 5% and was looking to get into the last January class but was advised because of there not being as many retirees, not only because of the budget cuts which I assumed, it would be at a minimum 1 year before I was to be hired (as of last January), if everything else goes well. Just word for thought. Good luck to you all though. Don't give up hope. Things worth it are worth waiting for.

It is very disheartening. I don't see why the Federal Government would stimulate the NYPD when NYC is not even stimulating the NYPD. The only went up to exam 5006 for july as of right now. I called and they said that all calls for current class had been made. That means that tests 5046 and up still remain. 5046 expires June 2010

Should I get in touch with the APD to see whats up? There is probably no chance of my test getting called for January 2010. I do see other people posting here with the same test I took and they got their medical, JST etc done already.

Call APD and get the ball rolling. Everything will last the life of your test but the JST.

I doubt it, seems like hiring is very slow these days. A younger cousin gets out of the military in Aug and wants to do the entire process in minimal trips.

Yes, start calling APD to get things in motion. I'm exam 8305 and have completed everything.

Not holding my breath the way the hiring goes but it would seem I'm going to be waiting for quite sometime. Congrats to all that made it to the July 09 class and are being sworn in today...

Im really not sure. I found that info doing a search on this forum. I cant find any city websites that tell you when an exam expires. Maybe others will come foward with more information.

The list should be good for four years. If the test was administered at the end of October, it takes a couple months to compile the results and certify it. The list was probably finally certified in January 2006.

Just want to let you know that the first thing that will happen (atleast for me it did) you will get the letter in the mail to report for your medical. During your medical, if you pass it, you will find out then, you will be given instructions and a date and time on the JST. Also, you will be given your BI contact information. You will also be given a very large packet that needs to be filled out and brought to your investigator. You will call your investigator within an allot time to schedule an appt. with them.

After the class that just went in, they can't afford too many more small classes. Folks at the city level are starting to get nervous about the numbers dropping too far. Even if the attrition rate drops by 30%, the 600 officers that they've hired this year are hardly a drop in the bucket.

Remember - This is an election year. Bloomberg is trying to set himself up to look like a hero.

Your right it slipped my mind that its an election year used to work in politics forgot the type of games that were played to manipulate the voting population, but at the same time he already looks like a hero to all the present NYPD officers who have recently gotten a substantial raise (well deserved) and with less hires there's more OT to be given out

When I took my mini med in June there were a few people there who didn't make it into the January academy and took there mini med that December and were there again for it, but I don't think they had to cut hair again because it was within 6 months

No kidding, man, there are like 13 exams before ours... and it seems like they barely cleared two exams with this class.

Some of the walk-in exams may have 50 people or less on the list. If I remember correctly, 8046 had about 300. They aren't necessarily like the scheduled exams that might have 2000 or 3000 people on the list.

Same here, 5046. I have no idea what they're going to do. I've quickly learned that with the NYPD, there are no clear answers, and that everything said is merely an assumption until actual calls go out. So I wont hold my breath. In the meantime I'll be finishing up school.

Hey viper, i wouldent worry to much about your list number. I would be more worried about the exam. They got by exam order. Your no where near the top but they will get to you and your time will come. Just have to wait it out

Here is a scenario I am pondering the possibility of.

Test 1 - 1/09
Test 2 - 2/09

If they establish the list for test 2 before test 1 because the list for test 2 was smaller and easier to compile, would that put test 2 ahead of test 1 or is this scenario not even possible.

I'm in your boat. I turned 35 this summer but took the exam last year 07/2008 when I was 34. I am hoping to get into one of the next academies as well. I seen that coming so i took the test before i turned 35 i think it was test 6011 or 6012, i am past 35 now but since i took the test i am ok, i just have to try and get some personal hurdles in order before i call and re open, and do the quest program since i live out of state right now. I figure i have about a yr. I got two different numbers on one i was listed at 17xx and the other 2xxx either way i think i am still in good shape for now, but i will have to keep an eye on it

to restore your name to the list you need to mail or fax a letter to DCAS explaining that you need to be added back to the list - follow the directions after the automated information.
you can call 212 669 2450 and speak with an actual human. the number is for the exact department that deals with "the list".

You should try calling the other automated number. (The one that finds out the status of your investigation, connect you to your BI, etc,etc.) If you dial in your exam number and list number & brings you to a list of options then thats your official list number. My list number changed few months ago probably due to candidates that were disqualified during the hiring process. I dialed my old list number and it wouldn't let me hear my options.

In your case. You have an older exam number and DCAS or NYPD must of generated a current list number for you. Try the automated number. I think thats your best option.

I called a Sgt. from APD (not my BI) last Tues, to confirm some paperwork..She told me that I wasn't getting into this class (no brainer) but she heard they're trying to put together a Sept class...(fingers crossed)....

You don't have to live until the day your sworn in...I know 1 person in this class and two in the last class who lived in NJ until they got the call...They had it all planned out as far as where they were going to live if they got the call...For example, If I get the call I plan on living with a friend in SI until i get my own place...

And to everyone planning to join If your in the 7000-8000 exams you have no chance because they will most def. have a class with about the same 250-275 people. Everyone with exams in the 5000-and early 6000 have a chance. I myself am 5047 and gonna re-open my case. If you have any questions feel free to ask. and jst and medical are good for a year and mini-med for 3 months.

My case is already reactivated with APD...it also needed to be reactivated with DCAS...I am exam 5046 and reopened in feb and finished all the tests, just had to put my name back on the DCAS list cause they call you from that list not the APD list..

Call 212-669-1357 and press option 2 then punch in the rest of your info..It should tell u about your exam and then press the option for your details and it will tell u if you are removed from the list or not...

hey joe I think it's all crap about the sept. class because if they do it in sept. its gonna screw up the schedule for the future class because the sept. would graduate in march and they can't have an empty academy from march to the july for the july class. With my guy, he asked a few of the same questions that were on the written exam and why you answered the way you did...and they will also ask you about some personal situations like friends/drinking/drugs/stuff in your social life and they will ask you alot of "why's"..It took about 30mins tops.. Just be truthful and answer with the same answers you did on the written exam...

Not really true about the sept. class screwing up the schedual. First they can just have the sept. class and have them graduate whenever. Then just start a july. Or they can just put them in at night. Its really not that big of a deal its been done before. Your right chances are it wont happen, but your logic is not the reason why.

As for you graduating from john jay and knowing cops... what does that mean? Your talking to some people who are cops. I also graduated from john jay and i know MANY cops including many family members. That doesnt put me ahead of knowlege with anyone in here. Fact is no one knows whats going on, so who you know means nothing.

ok once again prediction... what your telling everyone to ignore. Not trying to start a argument. It is what it is, but everyone knows someone, and they know someone who is the top of whatever. It doesnt matter, because the top of the top does not know whats going to happen in the next 3-6 months. We just have to roll with the punches and hope for the best.

Predicting july being 275, was not a very hard prediction. It was either that, cancelled or more then that. It was pretty obvious 1600 was not going to happen. Fact is even that prediction was almost false, because july class almost went out the window with a 1 week delay. It seems your sources go by what it is. July was set to be 275 for the past 6 months. So they are going to tell you official word. That could have changed at any moment, but that is official word. Just like official word at the moment is NO Jan. class (atleast last time i checked) but it can and prob. will change.

neither. i mailed a letter last thursday 7/16, called them monday 7/20(at the number i posted up earlier) and spoke with a guy who asked for my ss# and told me they just recieved my letter and added me back to the list. the info on the automated DCAS phone # is updated every sunday so hopefully it should say that im on the list and on 'outstanding cert.' by sunday 7/26.

i was on academic probation my second semester of freshman year after i decided to live in a hellhole 15-guy house and do NO school work.
i brought my gpa up to 3.4 and graduated with 2 degrees 4 yrs later.
tell them the TRUTH. tell them why you were on probation and prove to them why you are now a better person!

No it won't count as a negative if you are currently in good academic standing. Long as you have a GPA above 2.0 or better it doesn't really matter. But having a good GPA and doing good in college can always look better on a resume / interview etc..

Future you should be fine as long as you are above the minimum which is 2.0 i believe and your improving. Only thing is you have to watch how you word your reasoning for why it is low. If you trigger a red flag, you can be in a really bad position fighting for this job.

I was on academic probation for one semester in college too. It was due to my lack of maturity at the time.

About family problems. You better be over it and have healed through either talking with a friend or family member. This will show that your mature and have told the truth to the psych. therapist during your interview. That's a plus that your open and honest.

Every person has a flaw in there background either current LEOs, past LEOs, or recruits that are in the academy. As long as you act professional and a normal human being. You'll be fine. It's these type of life experience that APD therapist are looking to see if you fit the profile of a NY Police Officer.

and recieved over 100 so I am confident about my list number but I also know that it is going to be a while until they call me. Since I am going to college should I just join the cadet until i graduate in 2 years and join as a cadet or wait out until they call me for exam 8050? Its always good to here good things to keep us holding on. No matter how realistic it may or may not be. For some of us its better to wait till sept/oct, then be told theirs no class till jan. Then in jan. be told theirs nothing till july.

wasn't the class for january scrubbed months ago.... i was counting on the NYPD getting that money, so they would put people in the academy and send more people to my cmd so i can move up the ladder! heheheh

Yeah, I got your back. He's going to try to squeeze every penny from Paterson. I'm not sure if his psychological warefare would work because he has done it before in the past. Usually this only works maybe twice. Bloomberg would do a deal on the side where no one knows about with Paterson. It would probably be an all out ticket blitz all over the city just to raise more money. This is the only way I can think of raising money and is the easiest.

Today, I witnessed a TEA give an illegal ticket out because he couldn't read a sign correctly and just assumed that he was right. The muni meter arrow sign was pointing towards the front and no arrow on the back. Gave the guy a ticket for not paying the muni. The TEA looked like a rookie. His cap was straight on his head, uniform creased in the right places.

Yeah july is really far away like a yr thats too much I read past forums and for the july class they took a couple of 5046 and our 5047's so we are definitely gonna get into this jan. class it will happen because they cancelled the jan 09 class till the last week of dec. they cancelled the july 09 class for like a week just hold on bro it's gonna happen for us. Yes. You will (or have) signed papers saying it is ok for them to go through all medical records. And they will.

That means your off review. I was on medical review and got "Your case is currently under review." for about 2 months. After I heard "Your case is active." I immediately called psych services to schedule my Psych. I was not told I was off review. Depending what exam number, I would start scheduling and updating your info.

They are going to give you an ekg at your medical. If you hide something so early in your process and they find out they will put you on review or DQ you. Bring all your paper work from your ekg with you to save time.

I had the same problem. When I took my EKG at APD. I was cleared that day and to proceed to the next step. A week later. I called the automated line to check my status. I was on review. You have to do the EKG at APD. They will tell you if you pass or not. If they put you on review a week later. Go to your doctor to get an echocardiogram and a note that says your fine. A letter would not suffice. Submit the paperwork to the medical division. It's a small delay in your process, but you should be fine to move onto the next step.

Bring a printout of your EKG and a note that explains your minor problem. The equipment that APD uses are very old and not as efficient as current equipment. Some APD personel are not trained very well in giving a EKGs and could be why candidates get put on review. The actual doctor would compare APD EKG to your cardio specialist to determine if you move onto the next step.

Your going to need paperwork for your broken wrist back in 05 and any paperwork stating you went back to the hospital for whatever reason. They'll probably make you do some extra test to make sure your wrist and ankle is okay. That's not a disqualification as long as you put that down on paper.

Getting terminated for stealing...you have to put that down on paper when they ask you. If you don't put that down, you run the risk of getting disqualified if NYPD finds out. You'll probably get put on investigative review. There's always a paper trail or a manager that remembers something specific about something that an employee has done. You just have to let the chips fall and see where they land.
