Do they watch you with the urine test? If so I'd rather take the hair test, I'd never be able to pee at the urine one!

Hair goes back a lot further in time too.

You do not get to make that choice. I have taken 2 mini medicals. The first one they tested every other person for both urine and hair. I didnt get tested for urine so I cant say if they watch. The 2nd mini medical I went to they didnt test anyones urine.

When I went threw the Suffolk County Corrections medical the doctor(female in my case)gave me a full physical including checked my testicals then followed me to the bathroom and watched the urine come out. Its really not a big deal.

If for any reason you can not provide enough hair from your head for the drug test or your afraid of them finding something in your hair like drugs or maybe even lice, then get yourself a really good looking wig for them to cut. It might just work.

Question for those of you coming in from long island:

How do you plan to commute? I live on the south shore (bayshore)

I'd have to take the babylon train station in, then the subway down.. talking almost a 2 hour commute. Anyone have a better way? What's the drive like?

I'd carpool if I knew someone in the same location we worked at who lived close or could pass by on the way to work.

Actually, now they need the hair with the root, so they use a tweezer and remove them one by one until they have about 100 hairs. Yes, it's a long painful process, but they do give you the option of grabbing a handful all at once and yanking it out really fast in hopes of not taking some skin with it. At least you have that option.;)

Just a reminder... I hope there is nobody on this thread taking me seriously. I say these things only to keep some laughter and remove tension on the thread. Do keep in mind that the career choice in law enforcement you are all looking to make is a serious one and should be taken seriously at all times, during processing and once on the job. Good luck to all of you.;)

Just drink a gallon of water before going in for the test and you won't care if your on the big screen in Times Square. You'll practically be peein' on your shoes. Just to be safe though, you might wanna strap a Depends on. I did.

Hey guys, i just tried to reopen my case and the people at APD in brooklyn(I went down there) said I was on ivestigative review. I have no idea what its for but they told me to contact my Investigator today, which I tried to do but couldnt get a hold of her, the last time I tried getting in touch with her(a few months ago) it took 6 days of calls and she happened to pick up, I did not get a phone call returned. I know these men and women probably have hundreds of candidates each but is this common for them not to return calls?

Call every day at different times, and do that for a couple of days. If you cant get through, get in touch with her sergeant and find out if she's been transferred, promoted, etc. My investigator works in the crazy morning hours and leaves before noon, so if I need to get in contact with her, I wake up early and give her a ring.

Hair will be done regardless I have had 4 done to me with all the minimeds i have taking lol. Urine is for steriods, i dont know if they watch you pee. Never took one

I was under the impression NYPD only does random steroid tests. Pre-employment steroid testing would be to costly.

Hey Everyone, I have a question. I might have alittle issue on my hands. I went to Lafrak for the first time and when I got there I was given my investigators info on a sheet. On that sheet was my exam number written along with a list number. The list number was lower then my original list number so i thought nothing of it and put the list number that was on that sheet on all of my paper work instead of my original. I call up to schedule my jst and the woman I spoke to said that my list number was my original not that one that was written down. I left a message with my investigator right away. Is this going to be a problem?

Hey man quick question, I know the jist of what the medical consist of, but can you just run down on what they do when you first walk in, does everyone just take a seat and start filling stuff out and wait for the MD? Sounds like the semi-nice way of someone trying to discourage someone else's optimism because they're the one that's ****ed off about not being in yet. I'm 8314, a former Infantryman, and OIF Veteran twice over- and I'm just as optimistic. I think it's good news that the kid from 8322 is stille ager and isn't letting the man get him down.

Brother your preaching to the choir been there done that 3 times over man got the t shirt KEEP hope alive man it's a tripp man the NYPD makes you feel like your on your way and then they CRUSH you. Do u think BI would give special consideration to military ....despite "the hiring from exam and list only process"...

The only thing you can do is get put on the Special Military List from the exam number you took. The special military lists gets called before the city wide list but to do that you have to take your dd214 to dcas the good thing about this list also is that you don't have to use your veterans points. You can save them for the Sgt's exam i know this because i had to do the process. Not to many military candidates know about this and they get stuck on the regular list.good luck!!!!!!!!!!hooah!!!!!

no go take your medical nothing changes you will still have the same list and exam number when you are done with your medical.then you have to go to DCAS that is in manhattan.it has nothing to do with APD.DCAS are the people that make the list for the nypd just go after you do your medical to manhattan with your dd214 they will square you away.you have to go to certification i think its on the 18 floor trust me its well worth it

Well I already went through my psych and investigation proccess I was as honest as can be. Thats not a good enough reason to not hire a candidate. almost every person has a criminal or someone who has been convicted that does not break or make me as a person who is qualified for the job. I dont know I did all the booklets and they didnt tell me anything we'll see.

Don't associate with criminals, PERIOD. That's a big no-no for the job, even if it's family. If you do, you might as well just excuse yourself from the rest of the process.

Hey all, hoping you could answer a question for me. Waiting to be called like most. Read the posts all the time. You guys are extremely helpful, but I couldn't find too much with a situation similar to mine. I had surgery to completely repair a torn rotator cuff, and am going through pt now. Doctor's say my shoulder should be 10 years younger when all is said and done. I hear all different things from a few guys I know otj. Anything from "You'll be fine" to "make sure your injury isn't documented" which I find ridiculous since its documented on my current insurance! I plan on being absolutely truthful, but I just want to know what some of you think, since you seem to have some pretty good insight.

Thanks in advance everyone

When you do the medical questionnaire at your medical and u answer about it, the doctor will probably just want to see that you can move it and flex it normally now that it's been repaired. I messed up my ankle one time in the f.d. and when i put it down on the form when we were all in front of the doctor he made me rotate it around and move it and stuff. i passed.

Commissioner Kelly praises 102nd Precinct
BY TONIA N. CIMINO
Thursday, October 22, 2009 5:38 PM EDT

*snip*

Down 40 percent since September 11, 2001, reported crime has been reduced by 11 percent this year alone, according to the Commissioner. This, he said, despite 5,800 fewer cops in eight years.

“Recorded crimes are as low as they’ve ever been in the city,” Kelly informed the audience.

However, he hopes that within 18 months there will be a “significant” hire of new officers.

no ...i don't think i am...because those who got review at medical would get called up for review instruction....but i think i solve it....the egg head at that place didn't give me the next appointment and instead ask me to call my bi...so i thought it was odd since everybody else who wasn't on review got letters for psyh apoint ...so afterward once i got home ...i immediately call schedule apd and explain my situation..and she agree that it was very dumb what that guy did...because bi are not responible for scheduling psyh appointment...so then she ask for my exam and list...then next thing u know she offically confirm my next psyh date....which was nice... because this date was sooner than all the other people at med date...:)...

About this QUEST program, are military still serving but within a few months of getting out able to process? richbrown123456
10-25-2009, 12:57 AM
If you follow anyone at apd's directions without getting a second third or 4th opinion you may screw yourself.

Have some guy who lives around me he has exam 5046 he called and they told him that they will not be hiring his exam for jan. so do no bother opening his case. NO ONE knows what will happen so they should not have told him this. His exam is the oldest exam their is if the class is even raised to 250 he has a OK shot, but since he was told this his exam will expire mid Jan. and he will not have ANY shot now.

Have everything done ASAP, so call monday see if you can get someone to help you get your medical. Their are so many little things that can hold you up, you want as much time as possible to clear it up.

Nov. is right around the corner but so is Jan. DONT Waste anymore time. NO clue what exam you are, but if you have any older exam you want to get everything out of the way, never know what is going to happen.

Hey I would reccomend you dress casual no suit and tie but no jeans and t-shirt. Also you can just go to reopen your case you dont need to make an appointment. Its the DEP building right next to the building that say Lefrak City. Once you go you need your license and unoffical trancript they will give you a small package and schedule your medical =)

Good luck!

The address for APD is 96-05 Horace Harding Expressway, Queens, NY 11368, 4th Floor. You don't need an appointment or to call you just show up. All you need is your transcripts and your drivers license. No need to get dressed up.. I went around 3 and was out within 20 minutes. They're open from 7am-7pm. Goodluck! It is very confusing :( anyhow, does anybody know exactly what this means and how to go bout fixing it? Another thing that confuses me is that when I call the nypd automated line it says my case is currently active. So...yea its kind of confusing so any help or info will be appreciated..thanks ppl!!!

When I called back in June, It said that for NYPD my case was active But when I called the Dcas line it said that Im not on an outstanding certification, so I called Dcas again and talked to a Human, she told me that the reason why Im not on an outstanding Cert is because I was not yet ready for hire once the investigation was trough and my BI supervisor signed off on it then Dcas would get the info to put me on the Dcas hire List aka "on an outstanding certification" so all it means is that you have finished your investigation and you are 4qd and on a list to get hired eventually. And my investigator told me that once I handed a paper in May she would pass my file to her Supervisor so he can look through it and if everything is to his liking that I will be 4qd but she never called or told me that I was or was not.

This is what I got from a different site from 2004 when I googled it...

I just didn't go to the initial processing. If you don't go, you go on an "outstanding certification." All that means is that you can not move forward in the process until you complete the step you are on.

Hey everyone, not to change subjects and all, but I am taking my JST thursday at 7:30am in Staten Island. I'll be coming from midtown...and was planning on getting to Cromwell around 7.

I know for the medical people said to get there with about an hour to spare. Does that go for the JST? Last time I took the JST (about a year ago it was at the academy) and there was a huge line, granted this was for a 2pm test time.

I am hoping a half hour will do the trick since I'll be walking from the ferry.

They usually let you in approx a half hour after your report time, but I would still get there atleast 20 mins before your report time just in case. When I took mine they turned away a few people for coming in late. And definitely do not give them lip if you are late for any reason and they turn you away. A guy I knew showed up approx 15 mins late and they told him to go home and reschedule, so he gave them lip and has not been able to reschedule 'til this day. Rumor has it that he went missing recently and was found unconcious in a dumpster with a wedgy up to his neck and the word "LATE" written on his forhead. He was treated at the hospital where it took doctors 2 hours to remove his underwear from his crack and is doing ok now, but he decided he no longer wants to be a cop. So, try not to be late. You'll thank me later. ;)

i'm going to guess that it depends on what the charge was how long ago and your BI. if its a weapons charge from last year it might give you some trouble. if its a turnstile jump 15 years ago i wouldn't worry about it.

On a serious note, as I said before, my sisters friends mother is an MOS down in Central Brooklyn. She is quite short and heavy and she passed the JST. I do have to say, in all sincerity if you really feel the JST will be hard for you or you have failed it even after it has been down-scaled from easy to easier, this might not be an appropriate job for you. Your physical agility will play a huge role in your safety and the safety of an officer you may be backing up. Don't take this job to look pretty in a uniform and get a nice paycheck, as it may cost you or someone else there life. If any of you have doubts, rethink your career because this is for real and you don't want to find out the hard way. I know this sounds harsh, but it may save someone's life.

The JST has never been easier. If you can't pass this test, then you really should think long and hard about becoming a police officer. Now I know there may be situations like an injury re-hab or if you were once severely out of shape and you're taking the long hard road back to being fit,but you've had months from the entry test to the JST to get in shape. If you can't pass, there's no excuse.

Just a heads up for some of the women out there. I saw many females fail on the trigger pull. You should practice with a hard trigger cleaner bottle. No joking either. Take what you want just make sure you can do at least 20 each hand one finger. 20 being that the trigger pull on a firearm is a little harder than the glass plus bottle and you won't be tired from running the full JST. But again small hand females should practice this. We need more females out there! A woman's speak can smooth over that 6'5" EDP 85. I've seen it happen.

I noticed on the nypd recruit website that the schedule for the walk in exams is only through the end of October. Does this mean there wont be anymore walk ins after october is over or, do they just put a november schedule up once it becomes november?

They might be cutting down the exams now that they are flooded with candidates and the job has become desirable again. I wouldn't be surprised if they start giving the exams every 2-4 years like they used to and charging for it.

don't hop it, just climb it. all you have to do is literally jog up to the fence, stop at the bottom and climb over like you've done a million times. its a piece of cake.
