So, the million dollar question, where does everyone buy their ammo at now. Normally I have bought it at Walmart, but everyone is completely out. anyone know where to find some. I have some 45 but just bought a new 9mm gun and cant find any range ammo to go shoot it with. i have found some of the expensive hollow point stuff but no cheap range ammo. i wont buy it if it isnt a decent price. anyone that can help would be awesome. you can pm me if you prefer.
oh, anywhere in orange county, inland empire, la county, or up to san luis obispo county or anywhere in between. i travel to all of these frequently

I asked them if they were experiencing any shortages and they said no.
Been buying all mine at LAPRAAC. They have plenty of both duty and range loads.

50 rounds
Wow that's a little high. I'm looking for some at about $30 for 100 rounds guess I have to keep looking. I paid 19.99 for 100 rounds of 45 three years ago. Man I miss those days. I will not pay these crazy prices. I will just not shoot until the price drops again.

.223's = Dicks Sporting goods $8.99 a box, 20 rds, when you buy 10 or more boxes.
.45's= Local gun show, 50 rds $17.00 , new brass and the guy puts them together. They shoot well, target practice only. Otherwise Dicks again $18.99 50 rds.
.22's = Cabales or Dicks, bulk box (525 rds box) $17.99. Sometimes dicks runs 2 for 1 on the .22's. Very rarley though.
These are all 'sale" prices.

I have bought the 45. ACP (500rds) The rounds were reloads and I was firing them through a Kimber TLE II.
No snags and all 500 fired fine.

I've been feeling your pain lately as well. I have mostly been stopping in at Wally World lately every now and then, and have been able to score from time to time. Otherwise, I've bought in moderate quantities from private local sellers' listings on forums. All my defense JHP were ordered online. I've actually started reloading because at the rate I like to shoot, I just can't afford to keep paying current ammo prices, and I hate having to shoot less or bring less ammo to the range just because I can't find it, or it's too expensive. I guess I would rather hunt for primers online and spend some time during the weeknights handloading my own rounds rather than dropping into Wally World every now and then and scoring maybe 20% of the time.

I go down to the range equipment storage room, punch the alarm code, unlock the door and grab as much ammo as I need to go shoot. Yeah, it sucks being an instructor... :D

Where are you at in the central coast? Maybe I can drop by and you can help a fellow forum member out.

I have really began to think about starting to reload my self. But I have heard finding that stuff is hard as well. Plus I have no idea what is necessary as far as equipment and materials or how to evendo it. I would love to reload. That way I can make cheap ammo that burns cleaner than the white box Winchester.
I am in Kansas right now visiting family and walked into walmart and bought 900 rounds of 9mm and 400 rounds of 45 and 100 rounds of 40. I'm pretty happy. Now I just have to figure out how to ship it back to California since I can't take it on the plane with me. Anyone have any ideas?

Send it via UPS or FedEx.
The Gun Show at Del Mar is coming up. Might be some deals. I've never been so I can't say. I do know you have to pay to get in and probably pay to park so unless you were going anyways, no need to make the trip.

I've had luck if I show up at Big 5 on their shipment days.(wednesdays here), but everywhere else has been out. If you are in San Luis Obispo county, maybe try RangeMasters in SLO off Granada. They had a decent supply last time I was in there.

Wow, talk about a huge score. I would send it back UPS. I've never shipped ammo before, only received it through mail, but as I understand it, you can only ship it from a hub with the ORM-D sticker on it. Another gun-specific forum will probably have a good thread on the topic to confirm that.
As far as reloading goes, I was able to find a progressive press from Midway that came with a kit for starting .45ACP. They had Lee Loadmasters in stock for some reason. I can imagine a Dillon 550 or 650 is a bit hard to find right now. I want to reload 9mm and .40S&W as well but carbide dies are pretty hard to find right now. Other than that, primers are near impossible to find. I was in your position just recently and decided to just sit down and spend a good couple hours searching and reading articles on starting reloading. There is some good informative stuff out there. Check this site out to start, it's a good basic step-by-step reloading overview. http://www.rcbs.com/guide/stepbystep.aspx

I have been reloading on a Dillon for about 15 years, and considering I shoot about 20-25 thousand rounds a year of 9mm, .38 and 357 it saves me a ton of money. I find it very relaxing to sit in my garage and make my own bullets. Its a hobby that takes total concentration.
My Dillon machine was a gift from my sons and the only thing I had to buy was reloading manuals, powder scales and a tumbling case cleaner. Dillon has a fantastic no BS lifetime warranty on their products, one of the best companies I have ever done business with.
For anyone that does alot of shooting reloading is the only way to go.

I plan on going to this as I live in SD anyway. I'll post something up if there appear to be ample supplies. I've been having a hard time finding .38 or .357 even for my wife's SW. Occasionally I find it at Big 5.

Exactly. I would rather sit in my garage with some tunes on in the background cranking out my own rounds rather than try to score from various places, many way overpriced. Also, as a younger guy, I just can't continue keeping up with the prices of ammo and maintain the frequency of range trips I like. I love to shoot, flat out, and hate having to be restricted by not being able to find ammo, or not being able to afford it. I figure the reloading setup will pay for itself sooner or later.

The local Wally World's have actually been doing pretty well recently in keeping shipments coming in and ammo on the shelves for at least a bit longer than they usually last. Tons of .40S&W in recently.
