Hello,

I am in the process for selection as a court officer in Buffalo, NY. It is aggravating that I went through every step in the hiring process besides the review board. Now I am being told that there might not be another academy before the new list comes out from the test in the fall. They said I might not get called at all for the review board. I am going to sign up to take the next test, but does anyone know the word on court officer hiring for Buffalo? Would anybody know if there still is a small hope for another academy before the list expires? Why would they pay to put so many people through the hiring process but not hire? Thank you very much.

Who told you that? That would mean a delay of about two more years before there could be a new class. The test is being given in October and then again in December. After the December test date there will be a review of the answers and an official answeer key will be established. Challenges can be made to the answers. Then a list will be certified. That process takes between 9 and 12 months. Once the list is certified, the individual commands are canvassed as to the number of officers they wish to hire. Once a proposed number of hires is generated the hiring process begins in earnest. Screening may have been undertaken already. Then a class is called to the Academy. That process can add a year or more to the wait between classes. The historical procedure is for the existing list to be kept active up to the point that a group of candidates on the list are about ready to be called.

I sent an e-mail to the address that was listed on the new york website for questions about rank, rank number, and general questions about the current list. I couldn't figure out how his answer could be possible either. I scored an 80 on the exam and New York canvassed to a score of 75 for the Buffalo area. I can only assume that officers are needed in Buffalo if they have canvassed that many people.

Large numbers are canvassed for each spot in the class. With a list that's good for 4 years.....it takes a lot of bodies to get 1 into a chair.

I was told that when the last test list was about to expire the poeple that had completed the process were offered a job. It might not be the district that you want. This is what my BI told me. I have completed the entire screening process. Is there any true to that statement or are they just blowing smoke.

Hey Grady, I hope your right, though I have never heard that before. I have been cleared for appointment in NYC (pending last medical) since APRIL 2008. I know a few people who have been cleared since FEB/MARCH 2008. I really hope we haven't been waiting all this time for nothing.

Your investigator is correct -My best friend's SO got in the last class off of the last list. He lives on Long Island and went to the Cohoes acadamy just to get on, which was a MAJOR PITA, but it worked out in the end -even though he went upstate to the academy, he got assigned to NYC, which is what he wanted I was told that when the last test list was about to expire the poeple that had completed the process were offered a job. It might not be the district that you want. This is what my BI told me. I have completed the entire screening process. Is there any true to that statement or are they just blowing smoke.

I agree with Dinosaur---the current test is not till Oct/Dec of this year...by the time scores come out it will be summer of 2010...then they will begin canvasing and probably will start physical, psych.etc and not be done till winter/spring 2011....so all of us that are completely canvased there should be at least 1 possibly 2 classes before ANYONE from this upcoming exam is even hired....Futhermore (sorry if I'm ranting) the last NYC class went in April of 08----its been over 1 year. Do you really think they will not hire ANYONE in 3+ years. I personally dont think so...or at least i hope not!!!!!

If (temporary) King David offers a buyout Court Officers who are qualified and can afford to do so will retire in droves- to be replaced with people coming on under the anticipated and dreaded Tier 5, which will suit his purposes. -I think everything will work out in the end though
