I am looking at an apartment in the mission at Lexington and 18th. I have heard from some that it is a sketchy area to stay away from I am wondering how much truth there is to this. Anyone know anything?

Thanks

Depends what you consider sketchy. Personally, I wouldn't live down there. It's right near the Mission bart station (bad) and Mission itself is heavily hispanic. Not necessarily bad, just not for me because the shops, stores and places I go hang out are just not there. SF is a walking town, so you want to live where you can walk to the stuff you want day to day.

Well I know part of the mission is bad (drugs, gangs, murders) so Im wondering if this area is bad like that, or just the typical sketchiness that envelopes the entire city.

i wouldn't live there.. you're in the "zone" of the bs. too close to Mission Dolores Park for me and in between 16th to 24th, the hot zone of the bs.. IMO

Just a few blocks west of Mission is better if you can get over a little more towards Dolores. Two blocks can make a difference around here as you may already know. If your moving there because of cheaper rent, well you'll soon realize why it is cheaper. I live in the lower Haight and I think it's just Ok, still have to watch my back and lock everything up. But I would rather deal with the pot smoking looser types, they are mostly harmless.

Born and raised..............then got the hell out! But know it like the back of my hand.

Yuck!! Also really close to Mission High School. Parking sucks.

If you want to stay near that area try Noe Valley, Glen Park, Twin Peaks or Diamond Heights. Sunny area when there is sun. Richmond, Sunset too gloomy. Stay out of Hunters Point, Tenderloin, Oceanview Terrace.

I used to live in the Haight..Carl and Cole...NO Parking with 3 blocks.
