If I was a CHP I would take Bridgeport, and spend my entire career there. Can't beat the trout fishing in the area.

How much control does a new guy have over that? Is the kid from Bridgeport gonna go to Westminster while the LA kids go to Bridgeport? I also noticed that the LA station did get the most % wise. ( I count 67 out of 200) Is that because everybody with time on is trying to get the heck out of LA?
I know a guy who retired from Barstow, they seemed to be a pretty tight group up there.

So are those areas each Cadet was assigned or the areas each Cadet chose out of what was available?

Wow, 3 to Rancho Cucamonga? I thought that was a pretty senior office. I told the wife to be ready to move anywhere in the state for at least a year.. lol. Id be elated to just get E/S/W L.A.

I believe CHP goes by last four of your SS#?also if you have family and property? either ascending or descending order. not sure on that...
I'm surprised by the choice of assignments. I always heard just about everybody had to go to LA. That is a good variety of options you posted.

Is CHP hiring right now. If so, how aggressively are they doing it.

From what I understand they were hiring very aggressively at the start of the year, which is a full academy class of 240 cadets (4 classes a year), but they will be slowly decreasing in class size from here on forward. So if you want to apply, I would suggest you do it ASAP!

How does that work, Chippies going to a resident post straight out of the academy?

I suspect this is a reflection of the CA housing market and the loss of equity that many homeowners have experienced over the past three years. During good times you could struggle and buy a home in an urban area, work a few years and then take your equity to a rural area and buy a big home with property.
For example you don't see any openings Contra Costa County there. CCC property values have been hit very hard particularly in the areas where many cops have bought homes (Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley).

Here's a question that I haven't seen posted before.
If a CHP Officer receives, say, Monterey as their assignment, are they guaranteed to be able to stay there? I understand the needs of the Department will take precedence, but aside from misconduct or other issues, are Officers ever forced to change locations?

Yes, you may stay at the office where you desire to work. Mandatory transfers are few and rare. You are permitted to stay in one office until your retirement, if that is your desire.
