I noticed you were a Marine. Who were you with?
When I was in (got out in '05) I know that both the EO Tech and Aimpoint held up to much abuse. Just for that simple fact I would go with one of those. I know that the Aimpoint battery never was changed in years and the EO Tech only had to be changed every six months.
I was with 3/23 H&S Co. 4th MarDiv from 98 to 06 then got out and tried again with a non deployable unit in 07 when my son was on the way. That didn't work, I just couldn't do admin work!
who were you with?

I was with 3/1 SSP/STA. Did you train at Camp Horno in '02-'03?

Trijicon Reflex is known for a washout issue in direct light....
I would stick with the battle hardened and tested AimPoint or EoTech...

I have been running this optic since 2004 CONUS and OCONUS. You will not be disappointed. No batteries, no wash out, I did upgrade the mount to a Larue quick release. AimPoint/EoTechs are good, but you need a magnifier to do any distance work. If you are going to use it for LE work it is great for target ID etc. I have ran it on some CQB and with both eyes open its easy to bang targets that close all day with hold over.
Let us know what you chose.

Here was the response I got when I asked this question.
I want this optic to work since I don't want to depend of batteries.

The orginal reflexes had issues like the washout mentioned earlier. I would take a look at the new Reflex RX30.
If you are worried about batteries, the Aimpoint has a battery life of years.
My Aimpoint just survived a rear-end crash in the trunk.

ACOG is a beautiful thing
acog costs as much as the weapon. Last time i looked cops don't get $500,000 bonus for doing jack (and still get a government bail out) I am looking for the optic that says hey I'm a cop, I'm tactical, and a father of two in diapers.
can the Trijicon reflex be used with iron sights also?

Clearly, you aren't listening to the advice being given, so I will be flat out blunt.
The Reflex is obsolete and was never a really good option. The wash out issue is VERY real and a dangerous problem. The reflex is an optic you SHOULD NOT BUY! As far as I know, the reflex has been taken out of the military SOPMOD system of accessories.
An ACOG, Aimpoint, or EOTech are solid choices. The Leupold Prismatic is relatively new and untested. But, it has an etched reticule and is visible without illumination. The new Reflex RX30 is supposed to solve all the old Reflex problems, but it is still new and largely untested.
If your optics fail in any way, that is what your back up sights are for. The Reflex can be co-witnessed with iron sights. But, the Reflex uses a polarizing filter to improve daylight performance. When adjusted, this polarizing filter makes the dot relatively clear during the day, but next to impossible to use in a low-light environment. You cannot even see through the optic and to use the irons, you would either have to re-adjust the filter or remove the optic entirely.
Bottom line, skip the Reflex/Reflex II line and stick with iron sights until you can afford a better optic.
aim point and the eotech cost pretty much the same.
I was talking about the ACOG for price.
and i get what you are saying with the washout

Used AP's are not wallet killers, bro. Go that route and maybe get a 3x magnifier later.

Jannino, Do a search on google to locate the model you want. Then do the same on google shopping and list it low to high price.

With optics, the old saying of "you get what you pay for" is very true, and very dangerous.
If I needed an optic and couldn't afford one out right, I would use irons until I could save up money to buy an AimPoint or EoTech.
Ask yourself how much your life is worth.
Just my .02....
