The Western States Police and Fire Games are this week (in Santa Clarita). Seems like there's a lot less participation now, then in the past (when it was called the California Police Olympics). Any members plan on participating or just going to watch/root for your department's team(s)? If not, why?

I entered a couple times in the late 90s for powerlifting, but then got injured at work both times and withdrew. I have no interest now, partly because they replaced real powerlifting (squat/bench/deadlift) with push-pull (bench/deadlift). The squat is an essential part of powerlifting and it's just candyass to get rid of it.

The second reason is that it's now open to fire, and to half of the US. I like the foundation savers just fine, but the police olympics should have been kept as the police olympics. Fire can have their own games.

They're asking all guys from my bureau to work it on duty. Guess they're having trouble filling spots to work the events. Not bad. Work the events on duty and adjust your hours.

Was at the boxing championship tonight and I have to say, that was a lot of fun! Going to observe PPC tomorrow morning and submission grappling in the afternoon. Can't wait until I can compete!

I was at the boxing last night too. Great fights and real sportsmanship. Very fairly matched competitors and they all really gave their best.

Can anyone confirm that the San Francisco cop is doing ok? (For those who weren't there: He went down and was transported to the hospital for observation, during an amazing bout. He seemed to be moving and talking alright, but the paramedics did apply a neck brace before transport.)

Puli, I think so. I was at the exit and he appeared to be okay (he was lucid, talking, and appeared to know where he was). According to the rules, any fighter who was knocked out had to be transported to the local hospital for evaluation; I think the neck brace was just SOP.

Glad to hear he's ok. I thought it was SOP, but I still get kinda sick to my stomach seeing a copper going to the hospital like that. Thanks for the info.

Paramedics love neck braces. They put them on you if you have a toothache.
