If your a cop go to www.blackasphalt.org and register. It may take awhile as they will verify your employment before allowing you access.

This is a drug interdiction website with some of the best players in the game. You will find tons of information there.

Best of luck.

One thing to think about is that being a tar guard doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to do any interdiction. You might spend the entire shift running from one end of the highway to the other working accidents. While most HPs have interdiction units, I would think that the competition is pretty stiff for those slots.

You may also look for departments that have interstate running through their jurisdiction. In the south, most every sheriff's office near an interstate has some sort of interdiction unit.

That being said, if traffic is your thing, you can't beat the HP. Just do us all a favor and don't get the holier than though attitude that many troopers seem to get. Remember, when your butt is in a tight spot at 3am in the middle of BFE- it's the locals that are going to back you up.

Thanks guys. Ive been a memeber of blackasphalt or a few years, Awesome Website. As far as the State Patrol, TN where I want to go doesnt pay enough and IL, where I am now and pays 3rd highest in the country, requires you to go through a 26 week PTI. Im a single parent so I cant be gone for half a year. Im not sure if I want the BIG city, but who knows. Id LOVE State Patrol and ours goes home at 3am so Im all there is out around here. Im thinking county though. With summer here again Im reminded how much I HATE humidity! HA! Anyways thinks for the suggestiongs, and you guys be careful and keep the info coming!! : )

If you HATE the humdity and want an aggressive agency with an aggressive traffic unit, try Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. Pay is awesome and after 2 years you can put in for Traffic Unit. Thier Traffic Unit, mostly motors, runs 24/7, just like the city does!

be careful my friend. Do your job, being aggressive will only get u a law suit or fired. Law enforcement and the local level is now different, than the 80's and 90's. Did u read about that officer who confronted the Football player and family in Dallas? He was being aggressive, and wanting to do his job! Just be careful. I understand what u want. District Attorneys in some area's love to indict cops for split second decisions. A lot of departments say that there aggressive but as soon as something happens they throw u(the officer) under the bus. especially in the south, this is even starting to happen in the midwest, and northeast. where real unions usually have officers backs.
ALL LEO's out there be well, and keep that liability off ur backs.

If you are looking to work drug interdiction in the south, good luck. Most PD and sheriff agencies doing this hire certain types for these positions and the interdiction officers usually dont stay at one place for too long due to politics/complaints or whatever - lots of agencies are getting away from the interdiction units due to the "bad press." Your best bet would be with a state agency as a trooper. This way your primary job is "traffic" and you are not stuck chasing "barking dog" or "my kid ran away from home again" complaints all day long. Most Georgia State Patrol Troopers I know can do what they want -as long as they work their traffic crash calls. You get assigned in metro Atlanta as a Trooper you can work all the traffic you want as most surrounding PD and sheriff agencies work traffic crashes in their area so troopers are are not tied up working wrecks. You take a trooper assignment in north or south Ga and you will work alot of traffic crashes. Also look into Florida Highway Patrol - they have alot ot freedom and love to work traffic.
