I just got issued my equipment for next month when I start the academy. My department uses leather Sam Browne duty gear and all the security forces I've worked for have issued nylon duty gear.
What can I use that will soften the leather up (Espically the cuff case) and put a good shine on it? Will standard gloss shoe/boot polish work well?

P.S. I think someone has an evil sense of humor, our academy class starts on the 13th, for all of those with out calenders that a Friday too! http://www.officer.com/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

BTDT...and I HATE leather! I use Bianchi's Accu-Mold gear, now. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway....try one of the leather conditioners sold at auto supply stores for leather upholstry.

Don't worry about your cuff case - it'll soften after the 500 times you open it during self defence training in the academy. To get a shine I always use a bit of polish and rub it with an old piece of nylon pantyhose - works for me.

I guarantee you won't worry about the shine after your passing-out parade, but for that extra parade day sparkle, nothing beats a product called "colinil" if you can find it. I agree with the last post, polish and pantyhose works OK to.

Remember, leather/nylon is preference, but don't buy it if you get issued it! I'm sure you don't earn THAT much money in yuor police force. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif
