The new 01 Crown Vic's have increased the horsepower from 215 up to 235. However the torque dropped of from 285 ft/lbs down to 275ft/lbs. They also dropped the rear end from 3.55 back down to 3.27

Bottom Line? The car is SLOWER from a standing start than the 2000 but will have a little more juice in the mid and top end.

Oh I long for my 96 Caprice! Its sad when taxi's are faster than the police cars!

Those were great cars as long as there was a good supply of spare parts...like transmissions!

At least the LT1s developed enough torque to tear up a transmission. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I drove my Caprice for 3 1/2 years and at 143,000 , the trans did start to go. I almost had the chief talked into a new trans, oh well. I am sure old car #3 is serving faithful duty as a cab somewhere. I went on a 33 mile pursuit in that car late one night and she performed flawlessly. And yes, we caught the bad guys!
