Go to the Eastern Sierras off of hwy 395. It is some of the best fishing in the Western United States. It is some of the best trout fishing you could ever find.

I spend almost 100 days a fishing the area for Rainbow, Brown, Golden and brook trout.

Youy haven't seen the beauty of California until you visit the Eastern Sierras.

It depends on exactly what you want to do and how you like to do it. '96 is right on in what he said but So.California has about everything an outdoor person could ask for- minus the magnificance and solitude of the Sierras.
The north-western corner of LA County has brown trout, native rainbows, double-digit largemouth, and 40 pound stripers within a few miles of each other.

No don't go here! never, it's horrible- lots of man-eating bears and lions. The fishing is terrible, the roads are worse. There are huge mosquitoes and you'll get lime disease...;)

Retired96- Man keep it quite will ya!

Big Bear Lake, Lake Silverwood, Lake Elizabeth, Convict Lake, Lake Irvine, I have heard some areas of the Kern River, Upper Lytle Creek. Just a few for you to explore.

Check out the June Lake "Loop" (includes Grant, Silver, Gull lakes, Reverse Creek and lots of other nearby places to hike, camp and fish). You can rough it in the mountains by camping out at Gem Lake or you can rent a nice comfy cabin in the "Loop" and check out the area by car. The ghost town of Bodie is pretty interesting, as is the Obsidian Dome. ;)

Can't say enough about the eastern Sierra's...can't say I spend as much time as some of the other forum members.

Crowley, Convict, Twin Lakes, Mamie, George. All the Mammoth Lakes..north to June Lake.

There be sharks in those waters...

"Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then..."

ifn' they be in dem' dare waters, they usually end up on DECK( and subsequently folks leave the boat with a bunch of Shark fillets and steaks- just hate the weird ,twitching of their carved up parts- lots of nerves kicking off) :D
