Hey guys! It's "that time" at my Academy! We start drivin' and shootin' and stuff this quarter (less than two weeks). I have a question, though.

I have a duty belt and the inner belt- basketweave style. Not to be an idiot...but...how does the inner belt work? I can't find any real way it would attach to the duty belt, it has velcro to hold itself to itself, and a hole at one end. DOES it even attach? Or does it just work like a regular belt? Man. And they're gonna let me on the firing range.

I bought it used for a really nice price from a former Academy student, but he wasn't there to explain how it worked when I bought it (his wife and his HUGE dog were, though- Saint Bernards can be scary).

Sure, I could wait the almost two weeks to find out, but what's the fun of that when this board is here? If anyone can help me, that'd be super. Thanks, guys.

Xan, you need to get some keepers. They are short leather (or nylon) strips with snaps on them that go around both belts and keep them together (thus the name "keepers"). Without them, it's very difficult to keep the outer belt in place.

Congratulations on entering the academy and keep us posted on your progress.

Ah ha!! Thanks! I was kind of wondering what those were- the gear came with four of them. So, do I loop the inner belt through regular belt loops and then use the keepers to hold the larger belt to the smaller one (and therefore to me)? That sounds reasonable, but like I said, I don't know this stuff yet. If I'm STILL messed up, please correct me. And I'm sure I'll update you guys enough that you'll start having flashbacks from your old Academy days. http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes Xan, that is the correct way to do it! And don't feel bad. The only stupid question is the one that is NOT asked.

Remember the old saying: That guy is to Dumb to know and to Proud to ask! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Good luck, sounds like you are getting to the "fun" stuff!

Speaking of questions, what does Xanthorius

I have a question about belts also. I have the velcro inner belt and it hooks to my outer belt, but the problem is I put the inner belt through the belt loops on my pants and the velcro just rips the loops up am I doing this right?
Thanks

Shannon; you might try lining the inside of the belt loops with a little bit of material that is of a tighter weave than the pants. Something the little velcro hooks won't be able to grab onto, or replacing the belt loops with this material.

Worth a try maybe?

My experience with those velcro inner/outter belt set ups is that they don't hold up well. Simply an opinion, though.
I still miss my leather, BTW. Nylon just doesn't seem the same.

See Xan - bet you didn't think so many guys would be lined up to help you with your belt, huh? http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ha! When you put it that way, I guess it is a new experience for me http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyway, thanks a lot for the help, I now can keep my pants up properly. I'll be thinking of you guys when I have to strap this all on for "real" for the first time in a couple weeks.

Oh, I didn't notice the other question about my name Xanthorius. It's kinda weird. When I was around 6th grade, I started pronouncing my self "Xanthor! Defender of the Stars!". It was mostly a name I used for video games whenever a game wanted me to put in a name. Don't think I ran around school demanding that I be called Xanthor http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif When I started getting involved in online clubs and boards almost ten years later, I found out that the name Xanthor was already taken- But I'd made it up off the top of my head one day, spelling and all! (pronounced zan-thor-ee-us) Anyway. I just added the "ius" to the end so that I could have a very individual name across several message boards. So if you see another one, it's probably me. Unless he's being a jerk http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks again, guys!

I started with wearing keepers, but eventually grew out of them, I just liked the plain velcro on velcro deal, less space and bulk on my belt, and the less on there the better lol.
