There is an opening on USA Jobs for an Investigative Assistant position with the DEA and ICE. I understand these jobs are more clerical in nature than anything, but would they be a good foot in the door with the Federal Government?

I have been a patrol officer for about 1.5 years now, but I more geared to the analytic side of things. I think I would like to become an intelligence research specialist for the DEA, and go one from there. Currently I am working towards my degree, but I still have a ways to go. Also I would like to stay in Texas so I can finish college, and keep up my peace officer commission. I understand that I will have to make sacrifices, and I am willing to do that. Both the positions I am looking at are in Texas.

Thanks!

I don't think it would be a good move for what you want to do. Stay on the street and learn how to be a cop. Get a BA and some more experience on the street and then try for the DEA intel job. Office work is not going to get you there.
