I know this company has been a topic on previous threads. However, I am considering this option. I served in the Marine Corp Reserve for eight years and was part of Operation Freedom. So I am familiar with the military. I am now a lieutenant within a narcotics unit. I am actually wondering if anyone here knows just how much instruction is involved with the Afgan mission. What does it REALLY entail?

I believe those companies are pretty straightforward. It should be a no BS deal. After all, they are a publicly traded company with shareholders to please. One of the guys in my old platoon went back to Iraq with either Dyncorp, Blackwater, or Triple Canopy doing security in Basra and he had no complaints. In my opinion it would be a good gig relative to your circumstances of course.

Don't know that it would be a career enhancer in the long run, but from what I gather, the money is pretty darned good. You'll be in a fairly hostile environment, but from your post, you've been there before. Just my .02, but I'd give it plenty of thought.

My mom works for DynCorps in the drug eradication program... she said she'd disown me if I ever put in an application for one of their international security missions.

WHY would your mother disown you? I've been trying to get into their Poppy Eradication Force for 2 years - I have no clue why they won't call me!

My huband is currently with TC in Basra.. what is your friends call sign.. I wonder if he knows him.. It is very low key there, Tallil has more missions and some are getting transfered to Bagdad..
time is usually 105/35... but you have to save to make it worth your while..

Oh no, she's all about the drug eradication program (especially since they're the ones that pay her quite nice salary), it's the other programs that she's not a fan of.

Is is currently in Basra? I'll ask him to see if he knows a Tom. Call sign would be helpful since that is what most go by.. At any rate if guys are looking to get on TC (Triple Canopy) is hiring their website has the application process and they just took over the Bagdad contract from Blackwater and are looking to fill lots for shooters.
Good luck if your looking.

I got to know quite a few dyncorp guys while in Kabul for OEF in 2006-2006. As a matter of fact we went out on a couple of joint missions and the DynCorp compound was a favorite thursday night stop for my intel section (steak and lobster night). One thing you need to know that working as a contractor is a very dangerous job and one that shouldn't be taken lightly. I know that your thinking that you know this already but military dangerous and contractor dangerous is a good deal different. Military dangerous is getting hit by an IED or ambushed. Contractor dangerous is getting ambushed, abducted, tortured and then having your head cut off for the whole world to see. As far as career progression goes i never met one of those guys who was interested in career progression. It was mostly about serving their country and making a lot of cash doing it.
