What is "Criminal/Intelligence Research Specialist", and what exactly do they do? I heard they have a lot of OT, a take home car, and travel a lot. Is that true? Do you think this is a good position? What about is this a good path to get a SA 1811 position?

We have CRS's at ICE. They used to be called "Intel Analysts", not sure why they changed the title. They basically do database research and other tasks in support of ongoing investigations and to find new leads based on the research they conduct.

In my office, they don't have take-home cars nor a lot of OT. Not sure if that is the case everywhere. Also, the only travel I see them do is for training, although it is possible they could go on operational travel if needed.

It is definitely a good job though. I believe they journey to GS-13 and there are promotional opportunities beyond that. I would say it is a great place to start if you are looking for an 1811 job.

I am looking into this position in Boston. I am currently a Fed-LEO but I have no intelligence experience, just a couple training programs I have completed. I have no vet preference either so we will see how far I get. I am not looking to get to an 1811 though.

Be safe!

Did anyone else put in for the recent vacancy announcement for Charleston, SC? I received an email with a rating of 99 for GS-9 and GS-11. The email states I will only be contacted in the future if I am referred to the selecting official. Does anyone know what my chances might be of getting referred to the selecting official with a rating of a 99?
