View Full Version : Bouncers use excessive force?

I went to a strip club last night with some friends... There was a guy there that we knew and he was letting us drink his Grey Goose alcohol that he had in a cooler. He went upstairs, left the bottle downstairs. When I went to get some of the Grey Goose, the bouncer grabbed me and told me not to get any, even though I tried to tell him there had been a misunderstanding. Well, I guess that sort of irritated me because he grabbed me like that, and since we had permission to get some, so when he wasn't watching I went over to the cooler again. I expected I would be asked to leave as soon as he saw me. Before I could get to it, he ran up, grabbed me and started forcefully escorting me out of the club. He didn't even ask me to leave. I guess he let his anger get to him. It was okay with me...I wasn't fighting with him, I was cooperating with the escort. But when we got to the door, another bouncer (younger kid) assisted the other by picking up my feet (I'm 5'5, and weigh 120 pounds). When we got outside, the bouncers threw me, face first, onto the parking lot. I hit the cement, which caused a bruise on my elbow and a few cuts on my arm. My friends and I then left.

Anyway, I don't understand why they couldn't have just asked me to leave... I can walk on my own. I used to be a detention officer, and even though I'm pretty positive that bouncers don't get detention officer privilege, we were taught as detention officers not to use any force if the inmates were complying with our verbal commands.

I have pretty credible witness because my friends are both police officers and saw what happened. I know I was in the wrong for agitating the bouncer, and I understand his frustration, but I don't think that gives them the right to cause injury by picking me up and throwing me on the concrete parking lot, face first. Especially when I was cooperating and not trying to fight them. I think they took advantage of my small size. I'm glad my nose didn't get broke, etc.

So, is it even legal for them to do this? Based on the facts, is it worth further pursing? I asked this question on a legal forum, and an attorney feels I may have a decent civil complaint... but I just want to get the a law enforcement opinion on the situation. Thank you.

I have an idea, don't ever go to a strip club and get drunk and mess with the bouncers...Its very much a no no when your 5'5" and 120 pound. Matter of fact, when you 5'5" 120 sir should be use a lot in your conversations with BOUNCERS!!!!!!!!!

Now you know how they got the name. Did you bounce?

Get you lawyer help there!

Do you feel you were wronged? Do you feel mistreated? Did you receive both physical and mental injury? Are you suffering from mental anguish and feel as though you can never go back to any other strip joint in the Houston/Galveston/entire Texas state?

If so, contact the law offices of DEWEY, CHEATUM, AND HOWE, they'll fight for you and get every penny you have coming to them!! You might think to use Jim Adler, the tough smart lawyer, or Steve Lee, but no one will hold your head to their bosom better than DEWEY, CHEATUM AND HOWE while they milk you and your adversary dry.

Good luck and stay beautiful!!

Sounds like Grey Goose alcohol is a little too potent for your 5'5 120 lb frame.

Just a Law Enforcement perspective!

Have the best day ever!

Why don't you ask your witnesses if it is legal?

lol Okay, well then it wasn't legal. It was also unprofessional of the bouncers. I was just trying to get some more opinions, idk. I just don't know which route is the best, criminal or civil or both. I understand the laws, which is why I wasn't resisting the bouncer, that and fighting would have just made things worse. When I used to be a detention officer, while escorting inmates, we didn't pickup a non-resistant inmate that was walking fine on his own, and then drop him on the concrete floor when we reached our destination.

Anyway, thanks for the replies everybody.

dude, you did what a bouncer told you not to do in a strip club and you got a bruise and a scrape on your arm....

is it illegal what the bouncer did? probably not from what you're saying....but is a prosecutor going to touch it? again, probably not...

and a civil suit, what are you going to sue for? mental anguish and the cost of neosporin or bandaids? just be glad you walked away with a bruise and scrapes and let it go...

Why didn't you call the Police the night this happened....why didn't your two Cop friends at least talk to you about calling the Police the night this happened....probably because there's more to the story they you're telling

So.... When people get what they deserve, they call lawyers?

That's what happens when you remove natural selection from a species.

call a lawyer not a good one but a shady one. They might settle with the place for 1-2 thousand. After Shady lawyer gets his cut you will get the cost of admission, parking and maybe a beer returned to you. You may walk away with $35 dollars.
That will teach them...

If it chaps your *** enough to post on here, I don't understand why you didn't immediately call the police.

Soe states allow agents of a private establishment to remove people from their buildings/property. Typically not with violent force like you describe. I've arrested bouncers or bar security before for instigating fights with patrons who were causing little disturbance. Some bouncers WAY overstep their legal bounds. If you think this happened, call the police.

Throwing you was probably over the line, however just imagine how your court case is going to go. Drunk in a strip bar conjures up a mental image that isn't conducive to much sympathy for you. Especially since you didn't report it right away.

Not to mention you were drinking alcohol from a cooler and it doesn't sound like you were paying for drinks...suck it up sir, be on your way

Most strip clubs are "BYOB" Not that i frequent them (i turned 18 it was the cool thing lol)

by his story didnt sound like he was drunk, but i can tell you i could never be a bouncer. Too much liability on your part your not viewed as law enforcement your viewed as someone to check ID's and make sure no one harasses the women.

So throwing little punks out of the place on their face? Not sure if its legal but itd sure be fun :D

Sounds like there's another side to the story your not telling us, which would come out in court and would more than likely make you look like a total dirtbag. If you don't lik getting hammered into the ground like a tent peg then stop acting like a dick in the first place, mind your own business, keep your mouth shut and don't frequent the Itty Bitty Titty Clubs if your going to get drunk and act inappropriately.

I got my *** beat and thrown out of "Illusions" in wrightstown, nj in 1994 for trying to make change on the stage.

I had a 5, I was going to give her 3 bucks back...

Is there a statute of limitations?

Dude,

Acting as security, they can use any force needed to remove you from the property. Stop acting like a dickhead and go back to giving bj's in the alley.

Former Correctional Officer = Fired Correctional officer. You have no integrity in this case.

I used to work as a... ahem... Doorman a couple of decades ago and we pretty much always used excessive force. It really helps to get your point across and is a great deterrent when the other Grey Goose drinkers see you fly by and land in a bloody heap on the sidewalk.

the first (and only) time i went to strip club was on my 18th birthday. it was a full-nude bar (no alcohol, in michigan at least). Anyways, there was this stripper, and she was hot. My friends spent $20 to get me a lapdance. I was really psyched.

The stripper led me to this little booth in the middle of the ...uhh..room I guess. It was like a circle of booths.

So the stripper was doing her thing. Rubbing herself on my crotch, etcetc. Awesome. She brought her butt up and her cooch was about 4 inches from my face. Awesome.

At the same time that she brought her cooch up to my face, a dancer in the booth behind me decided to do some kind of leg move. However she kicked me in the back of the head.

So here I was, with this cooch in my face, and a stripper boot to the back of my head. Guess what happened? My face flew into this stripper's cooch at about 180mph.

My lapdancer immediately stood up and said, "THIS GUY JUST LICKED MY PUSSY" and started pointing at me. I didn't even have time to say anything. Two giant bald guys picked me up and threw me out of the club (in the same manner you described).

That was ten years ago. I don't really hold a grudge, and its kind of a funny story to tell people.

Not all bouncers are morons...I used to be a bouncer actually...but I will tell you this..Alot of problems with bouncers extend from thier lack of training, and OVERWHELMING false authority. A bouncer has no reason to manhandle you however dealing with drunk d bags some time you have to. I will tell you this much some of the crap I pulled as an untrained bouncer would get my butt sued off if I did it now...Easy resolution to this....DON'T GO TO BARS! Alot of bouncers are also tool boxes that take advantage of the fact that they get to be in control. Bouncers are pretty much just undertrained securitards!

I don't know about that. I used to work in this roadhouse and got all my bouncer training from a cooler named Dalton. He really knew his ***** and did some kind of martial art stuff where'd he'd rip your throat out if you ****ed him off. AND he drove a Mercedes! I heard they made a movie about him but it's all true, I swear!:D

Of course everything you said is too often true but what do you expect? They hire big guys that are there primarily as a deterrent but can drag some dumb *** out in a hurry if they need to and if it hurts or leaves a mark, so much the better. It'll probably always be that way because nobody else will do the job for the *****ty pay and the hassle.

that acting as security you can use ANY force necessary to remove a person from property.....not in my state....you can request that an individual leave and if they refuse, we get called and they are arrested for trespassing and spend a night in jail....we don't condone rogue "bouncers" (glorified ID checkers) dragging ppl out and throwing them down on concrete...assault with injury even if they just scrape an elbow
