Anyone work off-duty for these or attend personally?
I went to the one in Raleigh, and it was great. Lots of people there from everyday walks of life. Yes, there were some fringe elements, but on the whole, it was the moms, dads, working adults, and a good number of young adults under the age of 25. I was pleased.
Thoughts and comments on the tax day tea parties across the USA? I'm surprised that no one started a thread already (I searched).

Didn't make ours, but it is time the people of this country woke up and saw where their money is going. I was pleased to see positive coverage from the media here in FL for some of the events.
My tax rate last year was 2% higher than the presidents. I didn't make more than their reported nearly $2.7 million either. :)
It's not going to get any better. We've seen the prior administration and this one engaged in spend, spend, spend. How about if some of the federal government like the totally redundant Dept. of Education went bankrupt? I need GM a lot more than I do a federal agency that duplicates the work of local and state agencies.
As long as you are able to pay no income tax and still get a refund while the rates/penalties continue to increase for mid to highly paid workers and retired workers, we are in serious trouble financially.
The entitlement mentality of turning to the government for every need has a huge pricetag. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many politicians other than TX Governor Perry loudly advocating anything else.

They put the Raleigh one at estimates of 1000-1500, which I think was very conservative, and didn't count the total number of people that showed up and may have left early. I'd say it was more like 1500-2000. 2500 max. Still, it was very heartening to see such a large turnout. I honestly didn't think when I was on my way that there would be more than several hundred, which is how many the original permit planned for.
The one comment I did hear about the parties was a top Republican trying to figure out how to use the Parties for their purposes. Hears a simple thought LISTEN to what was being protested. Then DO what the people were saying they want done. It is that simple. Quit spending like you are drunken sailors. Do the same thing we the people do when money gets tight, QUIT spending foolishly.
Currently this is a small grass roots movement. If it is properly managed and leadership develops it could be a major movement by the time of the next election. If enough people show up it could even be the next political party (though they would have to come up with some other name than the "Tea Party")

Their was a few of them in the Kansas City area. One wa at the WW1 memorial here near downtown KC and had reports of over 3000 people. One over on the Kansas side had about 1000 and a few more on the MO side with about that many. I did not go but wish I had.

Haven't you heard. We were all just racist redneck tea baggers, according to the libs.
All 500,000 nationwide. Bought and paid for by unnamed rich republicans. Funny how it is "phony" Astro Turf" rather than grass roots, when it's conservatives protesting.
They'd better ntie down the rafters for next year's tea party. As dismissive as they were to these, the next will be absolute things of beauty.
And I'll be there. Somewhere. This made me very proud and restored my faith in the regular folks out there like me who love their country for all the right reasons.
Get some, USA...USA...USA...USA...USA...USA!
Trooper--I was thinkig the same thing. With how dismissive the main stream media was it seems like the grass roots, average Joe American who was unable to show up this time would be more motivated for the next one. I unfortunately was unable to attend the one they had here, but I'm definately ging to try to get to the next one.
The thing I find most ironic is from the reports I've heard it wasn't just Conservatives at these parties, they had people form all walks of life and all political persuasions. The media's dismissal of this beign a "conservative thing" is a bit off. It is a common sense thing of, "Don't spend more money than we have."

Yeah, I was watching Maddow and CNN about their reactions to the tea parties....talk about idiots. Especially that one lady on CNN. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6xWGvdRQ9Q) is a video of that reporter blasting one specific individual with obvious disdain, and then getting her butt handed to her by the "average joe lady" in regards to being biased.
Also, here is just a huge example of the outright...stupidity, ignorance, and a disgrace to the news networks that they would even deign to play this statement by Gorofalo (http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/16/garofalo-outdoes-herself-tea-parties-all-about-white-power-says-d-lister/). It'd be one thing if she were joking, but she's dead serious. I'd like an apology, since I'm neither racist, nor white... or better yet, where are all the public outcries from news channels and prominent media figures demanding she be fired....
Trooper, I was hesitant to go to this protest, as I assumed it was gonna be small and even though I had signed up for it, I had just come off my 12 that morning. I decided that I'd been silent too long so I went. Luckily, I had convinced a friend and his wife to go (mine was working, like a good productive citizen). I was so surprised to see all the people there. It made me happy and believe that this country still believes in personal responsibility. If there is another, you better believe that I'll be there (barring work).

.
That CNN lady is simply ridiculous.
She's practically a mouth piece for the admin, rattling on about facts of the stimulus.
Although the dude bringing his kid to that bedlam was a little ridiculous too.

Hopefully so! If I hear about one in your area (PM me what general area you're in, and I'll keep an eye out) I'll let you know.

Well, I don't blame people for bringing their kids to show that their children are the ones who will shoulder the debt is bad, but I can see your point. I don't think what he had to say was crazy though, albeit I think that reporter caught him off guard and capitalized on her experience at being a mouthpiece where he was obviously not.

South Floirda is backwards they had one today in Miami...There were a bunch of Hispanics so the whole only racist rednecks (sorry no disrescpect:o) thing doesn't hold water down here...The majority of the Hispanics are conservatives (the young one tend to be lieberal..*ahem*:D)...They're also very concerned about the whole Chavez, Cuba thing as well...

I went to one on tax day in Newark. The majority of the people there were mostly white, but there were a few of us of color. The local cops at first seemed to want to break it up, but thought the better of it and backed of. I heard one punk kid who was a bystander make a stupid remark about teabagging. Its funny how none of us ever use that term, but these idiots keep saying.

I also went with my empty Blackhawk holster on my belt, as a silent form of 2nd amendment protest. I stood right in front of my on-duty brothers and sisters to snap pictures. They didn't seem to want to break it up, but I'm sure they were surprised to see an expected 300 crowd turn into roughly 5-7 times that size.
I'm American-Asian, so I did not see many of us "minorities" either, but that doesn't matter in my opinion. I did see lots of average folks though :D.

it's a shame that the Americans For Fair Taxation cannot organize like this and discuss the Fair Tax.
Let's make tax more simple. 56,000 pages of tax code compared to 166 pages. What do you think is easier.
With the Regan Administration we had three tax brackets, under clinton 6 with the highest @ 39.6%, under bush the middle class did receive a tax break after 2003. If you were making between 32,500 and 78,850 it went from 28% to 25%. Folks making over 78,500 to 164,500 went from 31% to 28%. Folks making over 164,500 to 357,700 went from 56% to 33%. Anyone over that amount went from 39.6% to 35%.
With all this spending where do you think we are going to get this money. Is the government going to start making money to pay off their huge credit card bill? No. That is why people are so angry.
Just like in a simple household if you have more money going out than coming in and spending more money is going to get you out of debt.
The people that are steering the ship now are the ones that helped get us into the situation we are in now. Barney Frank is like the wolf watching the sheep. Barney testified that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are on solid ground. In a hearing in 04 Barney Frank along with Maxine Waters "...we do not have a crisis at fannie mae and freddie mac...excellent leadership under franklin raines(these asests are so risk less)." Gregory Meeks, Lacy Clay, and Artur Davis. Make sure you send a thank you to these politicians for helping us get into this situation.
