Well, as you may see, I'm not new but I thought I'd better post an "intro" anyway...

I'm a NSW Police Officer, and have been a cop for about 5 years. I have worked GD's and plain clothes, including anti-theft and robbery.

If you have read any of my posts, you will know I am currently off work, on suspension after being charged over a fatal shooting whilst on duty. For NSW and some other Oz cops that should tell you who I am... http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

I can be opinionated from time to time, but I try not to be insulting or derogotory to anyone. I'm pretty down on the senior police heirachy at the moment, but have been receiving plenty of positive supoprt from my colleagues and a few senior HQ bound people.

It is very hard to see and read about cops getting on doing their jobs, but it gives me strength to see that others have got through times of adversity. I'm a straight up, honest bloke and I have always wanted nothing more than to be a good cop and to do my job well. It is hard to have people trampling on your good name and reputation... http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

Anyway, I'll keep reading and posting and because I'm pretty stressed and upset (still) I'll probably be around on line a fair bit, especially when my significant other (also a LEO) is on nightshift. I'll probably be in this prediciment for a while, but I'm sure justice (and common sense) will prevail...

And today's my birthday... http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well, I hope you at least have a Happy Birthday. Just don't invite Aussie Cop over or there won't be any beverages left for the other guests. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

More seriously, I pray I'm never in your shoes. We're all here though, if you want to talk about it.

Chin up, be safe,

Thanks. The hardest part is that I would LOVE to talk it through (that's what the trick-cyclist tells you to do) but for legal reasons I can't... http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

I will talk aboutthe way I feel though...

C'ya.

Here's the olive branch....
. I did Peer Support Training because I particularly care about my mates. I went through (probably still going through) PTSD after the suicide of a child in custody. I did resuss and copped his vomit in my mouth and swallowed it.
Life can be $**** at times but... I learned that when you hit rock bottom, the only direction you can go is up. I can say for sure, and from experience.... you will overcome.
I extend my hand as I am possibly in a position to listen and help you out here if you let me, and of course if you want it. I always maintain confidentiality.
My email is in me profile if you want to.

You sound like your in a tough spot. Many others have been there; it came out ok for them...it will turn out ok for you.

I served in Viet Nam 1966 and most of 1968. The things I did there I left there.
However, in 1973, while in Germany, I found myself in a situation where I had to use my pistol on a man. It was point blank and still I managed to just graze his head. That I have never forgotten, and though it was found to be clearly justified (by CID and the local City police too), still I second guess that night.

You are the only one who can second guess. You're trained to react and you did. You're not hired to be hurt.

Keep your head up.

When I joined the job, one of my instructors says... "you must always appear as if you cared". That sounds similar to what I was told: Perception is reality in the eye of the beholder.

I know this is a while after your original post, but yes, I do know who you are. I obviously don't know the particulars of your incident and I wasn't there, but it seems to be a really tough break for you. I know it is tough but hopefully things will turn out right, it sounds like you acted in good faith and that's what counts. keep your chin up, mate, and I wish you all the best.
