Old rock. Not as old as some of you (Beatles etc.), but the stuff with b#lls, AC/DC, Scorpions, George Thorogood, Pat Benatar etc.
Eddie, I was a fan of both kinds of music, country and western, until I moved to the big city. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif I still like Shania, but I'd watch her video's even if it was muted. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I like most stuff, as long as it's not (c)rap.
Dave, why did you saying Wagner not suprise me? http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I like old country, golden oldies, rock from the '70's; really just about anything but this crap that advocates the use of drugs and violence, or uncontrolled & unprotecetd sex(easy to see where kids get the influence for some of the stunts they pull).
And yes, Shania! That's my lady. Hubba, hubba, hubba!!!!(Don't let my wife see this! LOL).
How many of you coppers out there are also musicians?
I've been a drummer since I was 11 years old; played in the school band, and was in the music business with my family for 10 years. I still go and jam every chance I get.
In the city I live in, the PD has several officers who have a band; they play for D.A.R.E. rallies, and other police related functions. Not bad for a bunch of coppers! LOL.

Jazz. John Coltrane. Miles Davis. Dizzie Gillespie. Ella Fitzgerald. Charlie Parker.
Also like classical. Beethoven beats Wagner any day. Who can resist the beauty and glory of the 9th symphony? It defines the word 'majestic'...written while almost completely deaf, Ludwig never heard what I believe is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. To this day, it is the only symphony written for chorus.
I like OLD country. Patsy Cline, what a voice.
I still drag out my old punk albums every now and then (note "albums" as opposed to CD's) Dead Kennedy's, The Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Clash. And some of the best music ever made..."X" whose inspired rendition of "Soul Kitchen" makes Jim Morrison look like a simpering idiot.
The Misfits remain a timeless favorite. Such sweet love ballads such as "I Want Your Skull", and inspirational pieces like "Plan Nine from Outer Space", and "Astro Zombie"
I also love blues...real Mississippi delta blues like Muddy Waters, Robert Fulton, and John Lee Hooker.
I have eclectic taste in music, but must chime in...almost everything but RAP!!!

Fiat justina.
Ambient, Classical (especially Ravel), some Alternative. I dig Bob Marley, and Chant. Anything with bagpipes, and anything Celtic.
Country makes my ears bleed, with the exception of the immortal Patsy Cline.
I think that about covers it. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jen,
Are you telling me that I'm not the only one who actually owns CD's of bagpipe music?
Yeah, yeah, I know......You heathens say bagpipe and music should not be used in the same sentence. http://www.officer.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Sparky, 9th Symphony is beautiful but my favorite piece by Beethoven is Moonlight Sonata. It is such a peaceful, moving piece.
I like all types of music really except for rap. I hate rap! Mostly I listen to groups like Steppenwolf, The Eagles, Lynard Skynard, Pink Floyd etc.. I love country too but I think I am in the minority here... I HATE Shania Twain! I simply cannot stand the woman. My favorite country artists are The Dixie Chicks, Garth, Alabama and John Michael Montgomery.
One of my weaknesses also is Andrew Lloyd Webber especially Les Miserables and the Phantom of the Opera. I also like classical soundtracks especially if it is composed by James Horner. He did the soundtracks to Pelican Brief, Braveheart and Titanic.

Anything but rap or this alternative rock junk. Lean mostly to the classical rock with the favorites being Fever Tree, The Rascals, The Association, The Grass Roots, etc. but recently bought stuff like Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, & Moody Blues.
Dave: "The Ride of the Valkyrie" would have been great at the wedding. What was the objection?
DMS525: What city & what band? We also have a police band called The CrimeStoppers Band. I'm trying to locate others.
Niteshift: You are not alone. I also have a tape of nothing but bagpipe music. I would like to learn to play one some day.
Take care & stay safe!

Hell, I first read this thread at 6:00 am this morning at work, I've been waiting all day to get back home and post.....I too have tapes of bagpipes!! And I thought I was the only one. Seems now I'm in pretty darn good company.
Ya'll just about hit on all of my favorites too, but ya gotta add The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Poco, Van Halen, Johnny Winter, Cream, Traffic, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, just about anything from the 50's 60's or 70's...some of the 80's stuff. The 90's have basically sucked big mossy rocks.
In case you're wondering, I only read at work, not post. That way if I offend somebody or **** them off, it's on my time, my computer, my account, and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it except just be ****ed! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

hehehehe...I was just kidding!
I'm a classic rock babe. I like everything from the old bubble gum music to the old hard rock music. I used to love Donny Osmond and all his sexy brothers... and my dad damn near had a heart attack the day he walked into my room and instead of seeing Donny... he saw Gene Simmons of KISS with his makeup and tongue flickering out of his mouth! LOL. It really was too funny... still is to remember it.
Since I always have been a daddy's girl (my dad's the sweetest and smartest, you know?)... I listened to his advice a long time ago. He taught me to learn to like a little bit of everything so I can enjoy myself in any atmosphere. I did... and I do manage to have a nice time no matter what tune is playing.
Of course, my sentimental side loves the love songs.
http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif
"...I'm a member of the country club. Country music is what I love..." I like just about all the artist, but I must say that Shania Twain, Faith Hill (we can't forget Faith!), Lila McCaan, and Leanne Rimes are FYNE!!! (In case y'all haven't figured out, I'm a 17-year-old guy! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) As far as the actual music is concerned, Alabama, Garth, and Dixie Chicks are some of my favorites. You know it's kind of funny because I live right by the ghetto area of town and when I hear the surrounding community's music (rap and hip hop), it just makes me love country even more!!!!!
I also like Lynyrd Skynyrd (to bad you can't blast "Sweet Home Alabama" or "Free Bird" during a heated chase or durg raid, eh? http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif) and 70's (disco) and 80's (lite rock) music.
I also enjoy Contempary Christian Music. A few of my favorites are Rebecca St. James, Third Day, Michael W. Smith, Jennifer Knapp, and Newsboys.
That should just about do it!

I like jazz, r&b, and rap. I'm open to other kinds of music also if it catches my ear. For those who don't like rap, you should listen to the lyrics closely. You can be educated and informed on what is going on with thugs, gangbangers, etc. There has been times when some of these streetpunks have used these songs to communicate with each other or to threaten officers or others, and officers have had no idea what they are saying. Rap interpeted the right way is not bad. It is an account of what is happening in peoples lives and/or certain places. It is just another tool for me. Be safe and watch your back.

Depends on the situation. Getting ready for work, it's gotta be hard! Metallica, KISS,Van Halen(I prefer WITH Sammy), Ozzy. I GOTTA get the new Iron Maiden.
For the times when I need to unwind, I put both discs of The Wall in, grab a cold beverage and lie down in a dark room.
Travelling, I get the Redneck'nest stuff I can! David Alan Coe, Willie, Waylon.
Any other time, I'll listen to anything else. Love my Buffett, classic rock, some newer stuff. Not much into rap, but I like Kid Rock and even Eminen(a little).
Working, I usually keep it on the localk rock station. Keeps me awake and pumped.

FLLD.......do you get 102.5 out of Tampa up there? That's my norm at work.
JB, there's a down side to using a song like FreeBird.......my luck would have me hearing a slow part at the wrong time. I have a couple of songs I use for motivators. And for some reason, every time I hear "When the bullet hits the bone" come on the radio, I get a good speeder. Go figure http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif
I am into the classic rock and country. I also listen to classical, especially on the piano. I can sit and listen to what most call "elevator music" for hours on end. I used to dislike rap but recently have found out there are two types that fall into the rap section. The soft rap has a beat and is actually nice to listen too, this is where you find will smith and TLC and others. The hard gangza rap that promotes violence is still in my ugh list right there with opera. Do not get me wrong I love a good opera but the singing in it has to go just have the instrementals going. I guess I am easy to please when it comes to music. My favorite bands are Abba, Bee Gees, Cheap Trick, Meatloaf, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Forgiener, Johnny Cash, Mel Tillis to name a few.

Hey, Nightshift...I tried 102.5 last night. Barely comes in. I mainly keep it on 101.1(rock)out of Orlando, 96.5(classic rock), and 95.7(classic rock/MRN) out of Daytona.
I've got a couple hundred CD's from AC/DC, Aerosmith and Van Halen to Pat Benatar, Jimmy Buffett, Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Sheppard. Even have a bunch of country and yes, even some psychodelic type stuff like Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Deep Purple. Got my musical tastes from being in the Army.

FLLD, I can't get the Daytona stations but, I'll try the Orlando ones. I may or may not get them. The antennas on the Crown Vics suck. That in the glass crap gets lousy reception.
102.5 plays good songs, the problem is that their rotation is kind of short. You can easily hear the same song a couple of times a day on there.

Metallica, Megadeth, Extreme, Van Halen (Sammy-style), God Smack, Creed. Gotta keep the blood pumping on these dead mids! When the admin pukes act like juvenile delinquents, I get back on the road and pop in Suicidal Tendencies, "You Can't Bring Me Down". ("Well, here's my apology, and one more thing...!")

J,
All of the posting sound nice but my favorites whould have to be the Beachboys, 4 Seasons, Beatles, Supremes, Lesley Gore, Shangrilas, Fats Domino...get the picture.
My son freaks out his crowd by singing all of the old stuff, and I mean by heart. He tells them that his Dad raised him on that stuff. He had to listen to it or listen to nothing...What's wrong with that, I ask?
After all, I'm the daddy... http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
