Hello all- I'm taking the Erie County Sheriffs Corrections Exam on Saturday April 4th. I was hoping that someone knew how the process goes to getting hired and also have a few questions:
* How many deputies they are looking to hire?
* How does my military preference play a factor in my exam?
* Where is the academy located?
Again, if someone can help me out with my questions I greatly appreciate it
Thanks

How often is the corrections academy held and how many recruits are in each class? How long does it take before officers can transfer over to court security?

The Sheriff's Office no longer has the contract, with the state, to provide court security. Jail officers only escort prisoners to the court room and maintain custody.
If you work the jail, you work the jail. If you work the pen, you work the pen.
Can't transfer to anything else.

I could have sworn that I saw Erie County Deputies working court security NOT too long ago. I know NYS court officers are taking over down the road, but I thought the transition is still a few years away (at least in Western New York).
There IS an Erie County Deputy on this board that could answer a lot of these questions...but I seem to have offended him or something! He won't answer my PMs:(

NYS Court Officers took over the court security in Buffalo on March 8, 2009. That would consist of Buffalo City Court, Erie Supreme, County and Family Courts. Niagara Supreme, Niagara County, Family and Lockport City Courts May 15, 2009. On April 30, 2009 NYS took over the Niagara Falls City Court.
