anyone here familiar with SCPD, NCPD, NYPD, MTA and PAPD tattoo policies and how lenient they are?

i have one tattoo. it is an eagle on my upper arm with "9-11-2001" underneath it. the bottom of the tat is about 2 inches above my elbow.

in the NYPD they have to be covered. so if its on your arm a sleave has to cover it. even in the summer months as per patrol guide. not sure if its enforced tho.

I hope they show leniency in something like that, it's not like it says MS-13, it's a patriotic, commemorative tattoo in reference to a day where 60 cops died.

yeah I think the NYPD is ok to a degree with tattoos (I say this because many cops do have tattoos - not visible), but don't quote me on it.. they are just concerned with ones that may suggest violent behavior etc..

make sure you tell them you have it because they strip you down to your underwear during the medical and all will be seen LOL

However, I can understand why tattoos would be problematic, specifically in a narcotics division for obvious reasons..

Maybe a PO on here can elaborate for you

One of my buddies is NYPD and has two full sleeves and he said he was short-sleeving it up during the summer. Dunno what has changed or not...

regulations in NYPD state it has to be covered...skin color bandage.
it's enforcement depends on where you work. if you're working in midtown south, you best believe it'd be covered or you'd be wearing a long sleeve shirt... i've seen a few guys on details looking like mummies with their arms wrapped up lol
in general busy houses in the bx/bk won't bother you, but there's always inspections looking for an easy kill

Two inches above your elbow will be fine. I have two tattoos on my upper right arm and I wear short sleeves in the summer with no problem.

Not only will they see, they will take pictures of them. If its a basic thing like lets say an American flag they wont take a pic, but any thing detailed they will take it and I guess have it as a reference in case they fine a similar tattoos on gang members ect.

Im sure every precinct has there own ways of strictness to it. Like some one said, they are all like different police departments, following general rules from the NYPD. You might find one to be real strict and one not so much.
