Hey guys I can't seem to find a straight answer on this topic even from the DMV website.

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmanual/chapter05-manual.htm

To my understanding people makin U-Turns have no right away to anyone even when thy have the left turning arrow Let's see the Vehicle is travelling EAST and is in the LEFT TURNING Lane and wants to make a U-TURN when the LEFT ARROW is Light. Myself coming from the south makin a right turn at a red light to go WEST. I have the right away coorect?

if they are traveling east and are making a u-turn, and you are traveling North (you said coming from the south) then you should never cross paths.

now if you were traveling south that's a different story.

lol well put it this way ...u turns do not have the right away under any circumstances correct?

this seems oddly worded, but my understanding (and I am NOT an expert by a longshot) is if a person is making a turn and a person going straight is approaching after the turn has started, the person going straight has to yield. and the person with a green light has a right over someone with a red...

so if the u turn has started, i'd assume you have to give them the right of way, you cant cut them off. plus if you are turning right on red you have to stop, so that gives the person doing the u turn time to make the turn between cars.

Seeing as you live in Farmingdale it might be good to know that in Nassau County...

Failure to stop during a right on red could result in a $100 ticket with a $30 surcharge.

Failing To Yield The Right Of Way At A Green Arrow-VTL§1111(a)(2):

When approaching a traffic light displaying a steady green arrow you may cautiously enter the intersection only to make the movement indicated by the green arrow. You may also perform any other movement as is permitted by other indications displayed at the same time. You may also make a U-Turn unless U-turns are otherwise prohibited at that location. However, you must yield the right of way-including when turning in either direction- to traffic in the intersection and to pedestrians in adjacent crosswalks.

Failing To Stop Or Yield Before Making A Right On Red - VTL§1111(d)2 a:

When facing a steady red traffic light - in a city with a population of less than one-million or in a city with a population over one million that has legalized making a right turn on red - you may cautiously enter the intersection to make a right turn but only after you stop your vehicle at the stop line. If there is no stop line then you must stop your vehicle before entering the crosswalk. If there is no stop line or crosswalk then you must stop your vehicle at the point closest to the intersecting roadway where you can see traffic traveling on the intersecting roadway but without entering the intersection. You must before making the right turn on red also yield the right-of-way to pedestrians within a marked or unmarked crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection.
