Just curious, who is charged with Mayor Bloombergs safety? In photos of him it shows guys with suits and ear pieces similiar to the US Secret Service by his side, but Ive also heard NYPD protects him. Also does the NYPD have a protective unit similiar to Secret Service or when a VIP comes to town Secret Service takes over??

Outshined is correct that yes, Underdog is one of his guards, but they're actually Detectives.

The Secret Service protects all foreign heads of state that come to the US. The Diplomatic Security Service protects other high ranking foreign dignitaries. The NYPD ony assists.
NYPD has a group of detectives that protect the mayor. The earpieces (or surveillance kits) are widely used by anyone who needs private radio communications and it is not limited to the USSS. The Secret Service does not protect Bloomie.

The mayor is protected by detectives assigned to NYPD's Intelligence Division. Similar protection is afforded to other high profile city politicians (i.e.: City Council Chair Christine Quinn).
